Default turbo filter

if i was to remove my turbo heat sheald filter (griddle) thingy im thinking it will keep the turbo cooler? improving spool time? is this right? as the filter is restricting air flow. i know its there to filter any leaves or general crap but so i aint botherd.

You mean the heat shield?
If anything, it will cause you problems, especially if your sitting in traffic for a long time (if you look to see whats above it you may well find your clutch feeling very heavy when the fluid heats up )
To improve spool up, you can do a couple of things, a decat downpipe will lower the spool up point, but you need to take into consideration the fact that you will need something like a knocklink when modifying as bigger mods can cause problems, especially on imports due to the type of fuel they need.
The other method is to have the car remapped, or a different ecu fitted, not the cheapest way but quite effective.

Exhaust gasses need to be kept hooter to improve spool up. Lagging the turbo would be a good idea. This will keep the exhaust gasses hotter to improve spool up but keep the surrounding components cooler (including the intercooler).

Not sure what you're talking about removing? "Griddle thingy" doesn't sound like the turbo heat shield! Do you mean remove the air filter? Not a good idea for engine life. Hope you don't mean remove the intercooler - that really isn't a good move!

Ideally, you want to keep the exhaust side of the turbo hot, as stated above, but keep the inlet / compressor cold. Do this by lagging the up-pipe and turbo exhaust housing, but do not lag the compressor!

I think the original poster is talking about the mesh under the scoop. Open the bonnet and look from underneath, at one side of the scoop hole above the turbo you'll see a plastic mesh/ leaf filter.

It will probably let in slightly more air, but the odd leaf may go in there too. I would think you would see better gains by routing some hose (2 - 3 " diameter and with a similar leaf filter) from the front of the car somewhere, to blow cold air on the turbo. There may be downsides to this, maybe someone more knowledgeable could reply?
