Question 3-port solenoid

How many parts do you need to change from a 2-port? Is it just the boost solenoid or the brown plug thingy aswell?

If you have a MY98 the plug from the 3-port goes straight into the standard loom. I bought some hose also to supply each port from the turbo/inlet.

I think the plug needs a little filing to fit. Best to hope someone who has done it sees this.

Bob, do you feel you really need to change the solenoid?
Many seem to think it is a 'must'. Exactly what benefits are there, remember i now have the TD05 FE 20g to go on with headers.

Graham,

Most mappers recommend a 3-port as it offers better boost control than a 2-port.

BTW what gearbox you getting to handle a 20g?

Post 10. Plug needs minor modification.

You'll need some hose as well (is there and echo ) if the ports on your TD05 are larger than the TD04 ones like mine were.

My dummies guide...

If you fit a BLITZ spec c boost controller
Does the 3 port solenoid become redundant?

Have all the pipes and the other bits.

Would I be right in saying that the bits that need changing over are:

The solenoid itself
Pipes

Or does the denso brown plug/electrical gadget thing need doing aswell?

The plug on the wire attached to the solenoid needs a little bit of work with a file.

1. make cup of tea
2. go out to garage/workshop
3. locate car (Subaru Impreza)
4. unlock car
5. pop bonnet
6. open and prop bonnet (using bonnet stay)
7. locate 2-port solenoid (mounted on the front of o/s suspension turret)
8. disconnect two rubber hoses from OE solenoid
4. remove same two rubber hoses from car altogether
5. unplug sol. electrically
6. take sip of tea (if cool enough)
7. remove 2 nuts securing sol to backing plate
8. put nuts in a safe place
9. remove sol from backing plate
10. trial fit sol electrical plug to see where it needs modification
11. modify plug appropriately
12. mount 3-port sol on backing plate (using same nuts you removed earlier)
13. take bigger sip of tea (should be cooler by now)
14. cut appropriate length of hose to connect bottom port to air inlet
15. connect bottom port to air inlet
16. cut appropriate length of hose to connect middle port to turbo actuator
17. connect middle port to turbo actuator
18. cut appropriate length of hose to connect top port to turbo outlet
19. connect top port to turbo outlet
20. stand back and admire handywork
21. finish tea
22. close bonnet
23. lock car
24. wait for remap
25. put empty cup in dishwasher

So it looks like the only part that needs changing is the solenoid itself (and the wires coming out of it). Not the brown denso/gadget thingy!

Thanks Carl!
