Well, after a year and nine days my IC spray lit up on the dash last night. Worried what it was when it first flickered as I gunned it up a steep hill.
I do push the button occasionally when I remember but obviously not enough.
Does it normally take this long to empty or should I be pushing it more?????
Think this prooves its not got an auto spray as well (53 STI UK) as dicussed on previous threads!

 

Mine came on for the first time on the Nurburgring last weekend ....... It sounds about right mate ...... just fill her back up and forget it again

 

I have the a MY03 JDM STi and when I press the 'auto' button I can hear the waterspray come on at 4,000rpm.

It soon uses it up! Makes a clicking noise at 4,000rpm when empty and I/C Spray light is on.

I am wondering what I need to be putting in the bottle to stop it freezing in winter? I suppose a bit of anti-freeze?

I would not do that, and besides, the temps are going to be cold enough that the IC spray does not come in?

 

What fluid do you put in them (is it just distilled water?) And would it be the same for a classic shape??

 

If you live in't north then just tap water.

In the south then has to be distilled.

 

After a year. You're right, it's just evaporated. 99% sure that only JDM cars are auto, UK cars since bug eye are just manual.

If it's auto then it will have two buttons, one to select auto/manual and the other to trigger manual spray. If there's only one button then it's manual.

North / south split is a bit simplistic. If you live in a hard water area (check the kettle for huge amounts opf scale) then use distilled water, if not then you can use tap water.

 

I fill mine up every 1000 miles roughly. Use distilled water and it doesn't get used much in winter as the air is much cooler once the car is moving anyway. IC spray is to be used in high ambient temperatures according to the manual as an aid to cooling the air etc.

 

Anyone on here used a C02 spray kit on there FMIC?

I've seen them in use and there meant to cut 20C+ off the air charge..not to sure if theres a kit for top mounts though and I believe C02 is cheap-as-chips to refill as its sold in all sorts of places..

 

Ive been using my 02sti type uk on track so had a company put a sensor on the car to spray at set charge temp and it works a treat , on track at croft last weekend hot day it was using over a litre of water per session and the car ran fantastic, just need to sort the fuel surge issues out now !

I had it fitted at motorsport dev in Blackpool by kenny it also has a small display in the car which lights up when its spraying, id done a few trackdays in hot weather before and you could tell the diffrence instantly the car boosted all the way up the rev range, think he charge me £100 but i know him ! Re co2 - I have also seen it - and I think you can get a kit from Demon Thieves now, DIY install and just need to get the bottle charged.

 

Yeh, I believe The Nitrous store do em' for about £350-£400 depending on which kind of kit it is..phoned round a few places and they seem to be the cheapest, they also throw in free next day delivery for nowt!

The owners manual says to half fill the bottle in the winter.

Or should that be leave it half empty...
