I tried using a slim punch in the notches of the security nut, but the punch bent and I got nowhere... Drilling does not seem to be an option as I'll hit the bolt.

Has this happened to anyone else? How did you get the wheel off? (Its urgent as my bearing is gone (and my house is upside down after looking for the b thing!)

PS and no I dont have the key code as I destroyed opening the packet; moral? Never fit the things if you lose the code!

 

The AA have tools that can remove many types of locking wheel nut - if you have the home start service they might just come and do it for you.

try with an air chissel, very gently though, but it might just work the bugger loose,
pop down ats/kwik fit etc and they might be able to get it off for you,
a new stud is only a couple of quid if the thread does go!

 

Hi mate , try chapping a slightly larger socket over the locking nut and give it a sharp ,quick turn to get it started .

I wouldn't use an air chisel myself,bit to brutal for me and too easy to bugger your wheels. I'd nip into your local kwik-fit and ask if anyones got a lugnut remover, If they have it'll take ten minutes to remove all your locking nuts so you can put new ones on.

 

Locking wheel nut removers available from all larger halfords stores reverse thread one end, 1/2" socket other end.

 

those halfords reverse thread items are quite large tho. had to weld a nut onto the locking nut (got 3 off - 2 with the key and one by smacking a socket on it). was a bit of a pain but did not damage the alloy.

It depends on the type of locker, this won't really work with the one's that have a spinning collar on them. If it doesn't though get an old socket that nearly fits over the stud and batter it on, then undo it and chuck the stud and socket away.

I had to do this once and it found easier when you heat the socket up with a blow torch to expand it before hammering it on. When it cools down it contracts and is rock solid. Don'r burn your fingers mind.

I have had 4 sets of locking wheel nuts. 3 sets have had to be drilled out.

 

I lost the key while changing a puncture at the side of the road - took it to the local tyre place- tapped a larger socket over the top and off they came. Did all four in about 2mins !

 

I had to get 2 lock nuts broken off by my dealer when i got my P1 as they would not open with the key it cost £32 but well worth it as if anything goes wrong dealers got to sort it
