from most comments of seen on this sort of Topic
Most JDM(Jap) car owners O/B of choice is NF
Most UK car owners O/B of choice is Millers
Jap cars 'Need' Octane booster (unless remapped)
UK Cars don't need it. but use it as added Det protection.
IMHO IIRC

Oooooooooops your probably right
as long spend most of the day off boost motorway use or unconcerned that a JDM is Tuned to 100ron and your using only 98ron.but would tend to disagree with your statement, if your drive the car hard, there again it's your motor not mine.

98.6 actually. OB screws your plugs up if you use it all the time too.
Use it when you know your cars gonna take a pounding, track days e.t.c but for normal every day driving optimax is just fine. A few tuners have told me this, I'm not just making it up.

i use 1 gallon of 150ron race fuel to 8 gallons of optimax which brings your octane to over 106 as i have tried cool blue 106 as a comparison and found that the mixed fuel pulled a lot better across the rev range right up to the redline.
usual off the shelf octane boosters are over priced and over rated crap

2) I'm sure I've read somewhere that SUL is made by adding a type of OB to ordinary UL? Better stop using that too
injectors get fouled.. the booster eats away at material.. for example say u get 25000 miles out of a set then plan on changing them between 15 and 18 thousand
Where can I get 150ron race fuel ?
What's a gallon cost?
Cheers

eeemmm im sorry when I use it I get no det, with out I get det is the knocklink talking **** as well

I totaly agree with t5nyw - think its the same as those guys who say a oil change every 5 k is over kill, emm I don'k know **** from pudding but you do what you will with your own motor Im sticking with the over rated crap
From my own personal experience my car (02STI UK PPP) runs more smoothly and pulls more cleanly with octane booster (either type) than when run on SUL alone. I normally use less than the suggested amounts and this still seems to work. So far I have done 32,000 miles with no injector problems that I am aware of, 90% of those miles were with some sort of octane improver
If you have a Jap car it is intended to run on 100 RON unless the ECU has been altered. You may not be able to hear det. and a Knock Link is a worthwhile, cost effective piece of kit that I would prefer to have fitted on any Jap car at an early stage and certainly before running full boost.
Anybody who says it is OK to run an unaltered Jap car without O. B. or other precautions is giving very bad advice and probably has little or no direct experience.
I was unaware that O.B. caused problems with injectors and would like to see such a claim substantiated.
Regardless of these spurious claims and from my own direct trials, observations and experience, I will continue to use N.F. which I now purchase from Roger Clark Motorsport.

driving a JDM's tuned to 100ron, running with at best 98.6, even worse with a bad batch, high charge Temp's and at high speed run
is ten times worse than a "Trackday" IMHOI know a few peeps that had tune cars(to 98Ron) with knocklink fitted and have had 'bad' batches of fuel and show Det's.
If your running a JDM Knocklink is not Preferencial it's Essential IMHO

Got an sti 4, just had a knock link fitted. Guess what, it's showing det from around 5.5k, rising at the rate of one light per 1000rpm. Will NF reduce/stop detonation, or will I just have to bite the bullet and go for an apexi fc. Had the car 11months now and no running probs at all. Always use optimax.
I assume the K/L is showing green lights? This is probably background noise. If the K.L. is giving reds you have a problem if it is working properly, it is only a matter of time before you suffer engine failure.
Regardsless of what you are seeing, try 1ml/l of NF and see if it is quieter. Go up to 2mls/l and test the effects.
There are obvious gains to be had from a properly mapped after market ECU, particularly on a modified vehicle or a Jap spec car.

That's correct Harvey, mostly green lights. At around 7k in 2nd and 3rd gear, amber lights start to appear with red flashing just before the red line. Is it possible that the guy who fitted my knock link, set it up to sensitive? I had it rolling roaded at PE when I first got it last December. Needed a new lamda and that was it. They said it was running ok.
