Default Anything quieter than a Scoobysport BB

I have a Scoobysport BB and running a full de-cat on a MY02. Although i really like the sound i was wondering if there was a Zorst that is quiet but still has a 3 1/2" tailpipe, stainless steel and fits to the standard 2 1'2" centre

If you have got a "quiet" back box i'd be interested in hearing your comments

Cheers

Pete

The prodrive box I believe is a quieter one - it certainly was on MY00 Classic

The 'new' scoobysport one is said to be noticably quieter!!

Nelson, Is the prodrive one completley stainless steel?

RON, Is that the group N one?

Cheers

Ian

Nice one mate, i'll keep that in mind. The problem is that with full de-cat when you put your foot down and the boost comes in there is a hell of a roar y'know like a hollow type noise. I loved the scoob sound with the catted system and scoobysport BB on it. I just wanted the old deep note back ............................. and with no restriction

I had a similar problem after de-catting mine. The 2 steps I took we're;

1. Lagged the DP

This took some of the engine noise away, after having done this most of the noise seemd to be coming from the tail pipe rather than under the car.

2. Fitted a resonated centre section

This made a huge difference, not so much to the actual level of noise but it took that hollow 'booming' noise that hurts your ears away and the motorway drone has gone.

Generally speaking I am now happy with the noise levels though I do keep toying with the idea of speaking to Ian about making me a quieter backbox, normally when I've got passengers in the back.

Yes mate your right thats exactly how mine is. I have got pipes lagged but the most noise is defo the BB. I'm not too fussed about the drone its that initial hollow howl you get on full boost

louder than mine, I have a Scorpion Tuner 5 Backbox, nice not intrusive in the cabin, but then I also have a Resonated centre section

Loud Steve, you should of heard it with the Firestorm on it my teeth hurt

Trouble is i want something that will deepen and take the edge off the sharpness of the roar but still keeping it none restrictive (or as close as anyway)

TBH mate i dont think yours was really much quieter than mine, but as you say yours does sound deeper on the whole whereas mine, whenever i boot it seems to be very hollow and raspy

I remember that S600HBY on here had a magnex 6 x 4 Oval on his de-catted bugeye last year. That sounded quite nice but was very thrummy (if thats a word). I see he's selling it now in FS but i'm not sure.

I wouldn't mind hearing a TSL group N on decat bugeye or a Prodrive one maybe?

mine sounds more raspy than the magnex did, at least inside the car, but it doesnt really feel hollow, just sound good in the car, with some of the boominess removed that the magnex produced

TBH tho, the magnex was perfectly fine, and sounded great, it wasnt boomy either really, it just interferred with the bass on the stereo, which ironically I dont listen too

Same as mine Pete

AFAIK Scorpion made the backboxes for Prodrive, and if you look at mine, and a Prodrive one, they look identical bar the tail pipe, whereas the Prodrive one has a muffler of sorts in the tailpipe itself, where mine doesnt

yep,

Chrome had a Prodrive one on his classic (MY00) and he bought my magnex 6x4 and he noticed a reasonable enough difference between the two

BUzzer,

I have a Magnex 6x4 oval on my car (MY00), although I'm not yet running a full de-cat. I went for it after being told by RRH it wasn't going to be too loud. He was spot on, you get that flat 4 sound on idle and it's not too intrusive at all, sounds great at higher revs but doesn't drown out the cee dee player or boom much on the motorway. The neighbours can hear me coming down the road but it's not loud enough to set car alarms off. It's just the compromise I was after.

STi Standard single bore back box
WR Sport back box (briefly)
TSL Firestorm
Scoobysport (H&S) back box
