I have just moved to Germany and everone advises me to sell the scoob and instead keep the Miata MX5 in addition to the company car. The reason? well, there is no real market here in Germany for those types of cars (talking about the sti here).....

 

Just buy Audi A8 n forget about scoobs....

Well im here, once you drive down the autobahn and blitz all the pony bmws and mercs less the cl55 amgs etc, You will wanna keep it.

They are rare as hens teeth out here.

Are you concerned about getting it fixed or serviced? Does Subaru have much of a presence in Germany? If you are happy with it, buy some winter wheels and tyres and have fun in the rain & snow

I am based near Braunschweig in the cold north some 2 hours from Berlin. Anyway, I am keeping it and selling the MX5.

 

Wise decision. I live in Switzerland and drive through Germany quite often. Trust me:
Keep the Scoob and get rid of the Miata!

 

I'm on a business trip in Holland (Well the Dutch are similar to Germans) and I have not seen one Subaru.Did see a bunch of slappers in Whites though!

 

Agreed! keep the Subaru! the other cars may be of higher class per'se, but when you pass through that autobahn with BOV pumping youll have those Audi's, BMW's, so on... wondering what kind of car you really are =-) (of course it will defintly be an eye pleaser) how about debadging? =-)

 

Judging by the looks you get driving a Scoob in Germany, I'd say it is worth keeping it There are quite a few English guys living out in Germany with Scoobs. You should speak to a few of the guys in this thread.

We shall be taking two Scoobs over for the Rally in August, can't wait

as has already been said they are few and far between over here and ther is nothing like ragging down the autobahn with out having to look for police, blitzing the lardy German cars aswell

you should hook up with wrxtankie he also is in the cold north and can get English food aswell which is a massive moral booster.

 

Welcome to Germany Melina You´ll love Braunschweig.... not. I guess you are there with EADS then?? Nice enough place though. There are a couple of nice lakes around, and plenty of uni students too. They have a big cinema in town and show movies in english too on the rare occasion. It is also dirt cheap!

Berlin is only a stones throw away, and if you are into raving, then check out www.loveparade.de The biggest party in the world! Unfortunately due to too many drugs and problems, this years event wont take place,. but there are still many many clubs to check out.

You will be happy keeping the scoob though. They are like hens teeth in this country and thus no-one knows about them. A VERY good thing On the weekend I drove back from Stuttgart (to Munich) at 240kph for most of the way.. . had to slow for some bmws and audis to shift out the way, but it is a car which stands out as different.

There are a few of us around though., and being where you are, you could join up with the dutsch guys when they meet too. Plus the ring is not far, the north coast is also not far (good for camping on the beach in summer). Plus we are only 4-5hrs south of you too (munich) for the beer fest.

Yeah, keep the Scoob - buy a BMW/Merc and you'll be indistinguishable from all the Taxis making airport runs

 

Just check that you'll be able to get it TUV'ed as you cannot keep it registered in the UK if you are a resident here. To get it registered it will need to pass a TUV(MOT). I did the same with my bike. I just had to change the front light and they never noticed the speedo. I sold my Sti before coming as I'd been told it may be difficult to get a TUV for an import.

 

you are probably better selling in the UK as well as its value here if its RHD will be minimal.

Thanks for all the advice about Germany. I appreciate it, especially advice about curvy stretches.

In case of any misunderstanding about origins, moving to North Germany is closer to home in fact- Denmark, a place where Scoobies STis cost over 600,000 kroners (ie a fortune).

Regarding TUV - I am surprised the car has to pass that. It is not even one year old. Can anyone clarify this. I have lived here one month and need to transfer the insurance which is probably going to be more than the 1500 euros I currently pay.

you will need to get the TÜV to do a Vollgutachten on the car as it is an import and they need to get all the info for your Fahrzeugshein and Fahrzeugbrief

as the car is eurospeck and nearly new you should have no probs.

You will need German plates to get insurance and you need insurance to get plates

Get the car to the TÜV then find an insurance company and get a Doppelkarte of them and go to the Landratsamt and register the car, you will then get your Kenzeichen(reg Number) and your plates.

As for insurance i use AXA and pay around 140 € a month, Obviously there are a few variables to take into account when considering insurance.
