Default How many Fuels in the UK are 98 RON

The local shell garage was out of Optimax (yet again) so I had to get a substitute. We ended up putting Texeco Super Plus Unleaded which is only 97 RON as is BP Ultimate.

The label on the Scooby Fuel Flap states 98 RON only, so which fuels are 98 RON, surely Subaru wouldn't import a car that can only use 1 brand of fuel.

Im sure only Optimax is 98 ron. The rest are 97 or 95 ron for regular unleaded.

Although BP say their Ultimate is 98 too, but im sure there was some controvsory over this.

I had Esso SUL tested and it came out at 98.4 ron though it still said 97 ron on the pump. (Wouldn't use anything else given the choice).

I cant get my head around this! ---- all petrol stations around here (15mile radius) do not sell premium petrol.! ---- the cap on the car does state USE 98* RON only... how come i cant buy it without going into Cardiff! what a nightmare place! (this is quakers yard south wales and surrounding area)

anybody from the area know of a garage that sell 98 ron?

I've given up on Optimax as I've found that ESSO SUL is just about as good and at High Wycombe (just pas Lewis's) it's 80.9 a litre, my local Optimax is 88.9.

BTW, popped in to my local Q8 earlier and saw SUL at 95.9 a litre!!!!!!!

If its a uk car then you can safely use normal unleaded (95 RON), you'll just lose a bit of performance.

Is Esso SUL really 98ron now? As good or better than Optimax? Or is there nothing in it? Anyone else made the switch?

Mad Gypsy - I always thought it was 97 but when tested it came back as 98.4.

Whatever, it's the petrol my car likes the most and it's a damn sight cheaper than optimax or 'ultimate' so that's what I'm comtinuing to use.
