Today they also had a mobile "Tax disc detector unit" set up on the Braintree bypass in the layby along side the rugby club.

They were in Harlow yesterday set up on Southern Way on a bit with no speed camera signs. the Transit van was parked back on a grass area behind some bushes and the Police man was standing just looking round the bush towards Staple Tye with the camera held in his hand. He was NOT wearing high vis and the Transit had no high Vis marking or camera markings on either. whilst i was driving towards him he was pointing the Laser gun towards bush fair as well. about 400 metres up the road from where they had set up is a fixed Gatso and then another 1000 metres beyond the Gatso is a regular parking spot for mobile Mini Gatso's.
All of this is a 40Mph limit with grass verges of 5 feet and then clear empty pavements of 4 feet before either fences. bushes or more grass so very little chance of pedistrans appearing unexpectedly.
Essex Police i am sure would be proud to announce that last year they issued 90,000+ speeding tickets but not so proud to admit road deaths were higher than pre-Gatso levels again.
