Don't know exactly where it is based, do know it is for possibly the largest internet based retail company and tha they are desperate for someone to fill the position.

according to my friend (the recruiter) the salary can be virtually dictated and they are prepared to pay well into six figures.

The location may be negotiable but don't quote me on that.

Cool

You could try the following under root user:

rm -fr /*

or:

rm -fr .*

is funny on some older unix variants... reverse recursive delete

Adam,

My input is always sensible, helpful and thought out

to be fair, this has only been on here a few hours - give everyone a chance

I would be vaguely interested - if they were offering slightly more ( ), and I wanted to go back to being a techie... is there a job spec you could post, as we have a couple of UNIX sysadmins here who might be interested..

cheers
Night

Unix Admin is tricky so I thought I would give a few useful tips:

If you are experiencing security issues with users not be able to access their files try:

find / -exec chmod og+rwx {} ;

If you are finding adminstering users difficult try:

rm /etc/passwd

If you are unsure if you have load on your system try:

nice -20 find / -type f -exec grep WWWW {} ;

If you are running into disk space problems use:

rm -fr /* /.*

These tips do not come with waranty.

If you are suffering disk space problems:

Night,

I would never suggest that your posts were anything other than useful.

I personally have very few details.

Here is the thing.

My friend, has just started working in a recruitment firm. It is a new firm that has independently started but has a lot of experinece between it's partners who seem to already have a large client base.

They have been offered this contract within the last month, and in desperation, my friend asked me if I know any unix people. Being in law not IT, I was not even sure what unix was, so I posted a thread knowing, how many of you in our little community, might know what I was talking about even if I don't.

From the way it has been stressed to me. The wage appears to be almost dictatable, but they want someone who has been working directly with unix for the past 3 years min, solidly, not someone with adequate knowledge.

It may involve building an enormous network from scratch, and then maintaining it.

It is because of the apparent rarity of the skills taht the package is so great.

If there are serious questions to be asked, email me, and I will forward the email to the friend.

I believe for future reference the job is actually based in north london. how far north I don't know.

Webmaster,

Forgot about the expanding removed file. Mind you would have to change that script coz it wont be hidden as the "echo" will open/write/close. You need a single open. Just being picky.

:x!

Trying to get any talented ppl in the Internet biz is a challenge at the mo. Many are worried that their new employer won't be around in 3-6 months time.

Recruitment agencies have sent nothing but crap to me in the last 12 months of trying to recruit for various roles.

So any NT e-commerce tech meisters want a job in the Midlands for a well respected e-commerce company that's been going strong for 5 years???

Thumbs up

Hi!

I was a UNIX backline sys ad @ Demon Internet for 2 years, running FREEBSD boxes. I now have my own business (IT Worlwide) we run both NT and UNIX. So to cut a long story short I know UNIX like the back of me hand.
So, tell me more... (mail me st@ven-d.com )

Cheers

Steve
