Just got some plasma blue bulbs 110/100watt
for the scoob what a differance they make now you can see what your doing at night !

£40.00+vat from EC Parts in Brackley Northants 01280 700664 Steve Tuckley

Is this a good Price

I payed about £70 for the genuine PIAA plasma blue, but worth every god damn penny... also got them in the standard fogs as well and what a differnce that makes too

The ones that i have are genuine thing.
I think i will have to get some for the fogs as well, £70 is a bit steep for the bulbs or was it for the fogs as well.

Hy folks,

Sorry to ask something that may have been asked several times in this forum, bur can you please tell me the part number (or reference number or model, you know...) of the PIAA bulbs you are talking about?

And what kind of bulbs do you put on the standard fogs?? Do you replace only the bulbs or do you also make any modifications to the fog lamps glass??

The cost of my bulbs was £40.00+vat for a pair and the part number are H47P 60/55w
110/100w plasama Blue

they are standard H3 bulbs, PIAA H46S are their code, they produce 85w but draw the same amps as the standard 55w and are £28.64 EACH

The h/lamp are PIAA H48P and are 80/80w and produce 135/115w £71.30 a pair

Both from G/Goode in Leicester ( not the cheapest mind you, but more convenient than the wife finding them in the post with the reciept )

I've used both now for 5 months in my Impreza and the same pair in a XR2i for 10 months and had no problems at all, the only thing that was mentioned was never start the car with the lamps on as the fluctuations in voltage will destroy them ( they have survived a couple of mistakes though !! )

Thanks for you replay but now I'm really confused! :|

Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Head lamps: PIAA H47P or H48P (diference is on the power of the bulbs, correct?)

Fog Lamps: PIAA H46S (H3)

Yes you are right as to the part numbers and wattages.
Save some pennys and buy some.

My wife says she can see what she's doing on the way home now with the new bulbs and I have put a relay in line now so you can't start the car with the lights on to prolong bulb life

Apparently if something is going to melt, the first thing to go is the plastic mount that the bulb sits in, this goes before the reflector and loom usually. I dont know quite what the effects of the newer lower wattage/higher output bulbs are though.

Can you buy this plastic bulb mount seperately? A new headlamp costs £170 and I don't fancy replacing that!

Hi folks ....

No problems with melted anything ( except the bank account !) and thats with night driving of about 2 hours a night this time of year with main beam on for about 50% of the time ...... went into Wales in November for the networkq and they were on for about 5 hours continusly around the lanes and no problems ..... thay are safe IMHO ....

I've just had the fog lights relaced with PIAA pencil beams and W O W !!

I paid 256 pounds from my local Subaru dealer for the piaa kit,including brackets and wiring (with no discount that I was aware of)
Fitting was a bit fiddly because you have to drills holes for the mounting bolts to fit through,but it is well worth it,they have doubled my enjoyment of the car.

The only downsides (small ones) are that they are a bit low to the ground,making it hard to see over crests.Also they are so bright that if there is a road sign near to a bend the reflection makes it hard to see the bend,and when you switch back to dipped you can see bugger all!

Also I've just had both bulbs blow after seven months use,within the space of three days. (seems a bit suspect to me!)I have put the H3 55w bulbs in from the original fogs untill the new bulbs arrive and they are still miles better than standard.
I wouldn't mind getting some of the Plasma bulbs to improve dipped beam.

None of you guys mention the MY of your cars as I am led to believe that the wiring looms differ?

My car is a 94WRX and I am thinking of installing the PIAA H48P 80/80W equiv 135/115W replacing the existing headlamp bulbs.
(thanks Kev for the information on your website)

Also has anyone uprated the side lights with suitable/better bulbs??

Both of my jap imports came with 80/80 bulbs fitted already, from different import routes, case you are wondering .

I haven't had any obvious loom/reflector problems with either a 96 WRX (old style) or a (new style) 97 WRX STI RA VLtd.

I finished off the page on my site with all the details of PIAA bulbs etc ( got rid of those nasty spelling mistakes !) I've also put details of the PIAA pro 80 lamps as well, worth a visit when your're passing

Does anyone know how to get the bulbs out of the back of the lamps?

I spent about 30 seconds trying to get the bulbs out on my new MY00, got p*****d off, an gave up. Any simple advice for a Scooby Newbie would be much appreciated.

MickeyG,

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my MY00 bullbs to PIAA ones. The nearside one took me 5 or 10 frustrating minutes to get out! Once I'd figured it out the offside one took seconds.

I can't remember if I used the instructions from the PIAA box or the sub manual ... or both..

But when you press in the holder part that clamps the bulb you need to press it quite firmly before trying to move it. It has 2 spring loaded buttons on each side.

I was laughing at myself ( ) once I'd done the 1st one!
