Better lights on a budget ?
#1
I thought I'd share my weekends work with you and maybe save someone a few quid into the bargain. Anyway the standard lights are no better than candles, no arguments there ? so I have gone down the Xenon "white" 30% brighter bulbs route AND popped 100W bulbs into the fogs and wired them up through relays into the main beam. I adjusted the main beam which was miles out (too low) and lifted the fogs up, I know youre thinking that the fogs beam pattern is not a lot of use, but an extra 200W of light (peripheral or not) is better than nothing, and it REALLY makes a difference, not bad for less than £25. I'd recomend it to anyone who is thinking of going down that route.....
Good luck

I just hope I don't meet you coming the other way at night !!
I've just put in the Halfords own brand 30% brighter white bulbs and am not that impressed. In hindsight I wish I got the blue tinged jobbies instead. Perhaps I should have got the Xenon Plus brand aswell.

DanTheMan,Otis..
I've had the PIAA plasma blue 80/80w (about £75) for almost 3 months in and they are the dogs recomend them to anyone, I upgraded the fogs over the w/e to PIAA plasma blue 85w (£48) and I'm impressed, they only draw the same as the standard 55w and the quality of light is excellent....

Hiya Andy...
I read this a while back and I have to say I don't agree ....
The output is better and brighter without doubt in both an Impreza and a xr2i, they project light further and with a greater quality and don't dazzle drivers from behind or on other the carrigway ( crude test with a mate on some local b roads !). So although this site is great site and a mine of information I have to dissagree based on my experience's with the plasma blue type.
I did try the cheaper " xenon type " before these though and there was no difference at all.....my guess is you get what you pay for .....

I solved the lighting problem by changing the main bulbs to the xenon 30% type, and by adding a couple of Hella spots mounted just inside the fogs, retained by lamp steady bars attached to the venting grill.Insert a pair of 130 watt bulbs(i know the're illegal)and hey presto 500 yds of extra daylight.

ps Kev - to include a picture like that, you have to put the right UBB code around the link, i.e. "[ img ]" and "[ /img ]" (but without the spaces and quotes - had to put them in to stop it converting them here too!). Then it looks like this:

I've just ordered some Osram Xenon bulbs, but would like to increase the light on the Fog's.
Are there any bulbs I can get which won't melt the fog lamp wiring ??
Specific make/bulb no. would be helpfull.
Thanks..
Darren.

I dont know how much the wire will take before meltdown but its still surviving after 2 weeks, anyway if you are that concerned then simply wire the feed directly to the battery (via a fuse!) and you should have no bother whatever the wattage!!!
BUT I suppose you will also have to use a thicker earth lead (the current earth wire dissappears back into the loom) to a point on the chassis as close as possible, I used two mounting bolts that were already there and it really is a piece of cake to do.
good luck and dont forget to remove the light covers.....

I was looking at the RING Projector lamps available in Halfords for about £30. They look like they would fit in the grill either side of the number plate but hav'nt looked in detail anyone know if there is anything down there to fix them to and what I may be letting myself in for - £30 and an afternoon probably is'nt much to invest into seeing in the dark (for dark read the light provided by subaru)
