Another Scooby dies of Premium Petrol Poisoning

Looks like the Super vs Premium discussion just reared its head again. My friend Sasha has an Sti 1V (the one you may have seen in May’s Redline magazine playing silly Bu99ers at York Raceway) and makes many runs to and from Southern France and Italy for work. ‘Cept that he won’t be driving it back this time! Number Two piston now has a mighty big hole in it – luckily David Hendry cars who he bought it from have arranged the pickup and repairs… some warranties are better than others aren’t they!
He’s always run the Sti on Premium (against all advice) – and I have to say that having driven his car a couple of weeks ago, it felt very rough. I’ve got an Sti V on Broquet and the engine is silky smooth in comparison and pulls much harder. Interestingly enough, on my recommendation, he’d just bought a Broquet but not even fitted it… cruel huh? The mega-stereo in the boot all needed to come out in order to drop them thru the hatches. 26,000 miles on it and a very dead engine.
I’ve noticed a huge difference in running mine on Broquet, and mine is the Phase 2 engine, so apparently more sensitive to it in any case. Still, makes me think it’ll be a whole lot safer to run on Super again. I guess Sasha’s 500 mile motorway journeys with the engine running on boost are the problem. He does tend to run the thing at 120mph most of the way so it’s working damned hard!
There’s been loads of debate on this one, but I thought another horror story might just remind Sti types to be cautious – Texaco Super and it’s a different car!

Broquet is a fuel catalyst that sits in the fuel tank (actually two of them required for Scoobs). Broquet will improve combustion of fuel and allow safe use of cooking unleaded (premium 95 RON) instead of 97 RON supergreen without usual loss of performance or worse.

Yes. Combustion is more complete which means slightly more available engine power which gives better economy and/or improved acceleration and smoother running. In the medium/longer term your lube oil will stay much cleaner which has to ge good news for any engine. It also give you the option of running on premium unleaded if SUL hard to find. With the car on super and with the broquet in, it runs superbly, (probably like it should if was still in japan!) but with fuel hitting 90p odd a litre Premium calls!
Still haven't made a decision on this one, maybe it's time to splash out on a knock link and find out what's really going on inside the engine.
Sickboy, do a search on Broquet and see what you get, there's loads of posts about it. As a hobby i race a Formula One Hovercraft withg a Rotax 670cc 125bhp Two Stroke and i've bought one for that as well, as fueling is equally crucial and it'll melt a piston in no time if it's wrong.
All i'd say is -so far so good!
Lots f people told me to avoid the V5 coz of the engine, looks like the <V4 engine is no better!
Wonder when the first P1 will let go

We would recommend two number 8-pellet in-tank units. Usual price £145.70 (inc VAT) but discounted to Scoobynet by 20%. Price is thus £116.56 plus £2.00 p/p. TOTAL £118.56.
Fitting circa 30 mins (this quoted by Scoobynet contributor). There is a link about fitting complete with piccies.
