When I start out in the morning, before the car has nay heat, it sounds like a black cab (

I notice it mainly when i pull out of my drive into traffic and the car isn't moving or moving very slowly.

Is this normal or should I be back down the dealers?

 

Sounds like a problem to me. Mine only makes a bit of noise if I rev it immediately after switching on, ie before oil pressure is sufficient.

 

My MY99 does this , but it's 40,000 miles old and been diagnosed with piston slap, so I would get it down to the dealer if I were you

My MY02 is slightly grumpy first thing, but certainly not diesel-like. A trip to the dealers, I reckon Mate.

 

The tickover on my 2002WRX is very quiet no way should it sound like a
black cab definiley go back to the dealerAND when your there
listen at another new WRX. (black cab WRX no way)

 

My 03wrx does this on cold mornings, it sounds like it has piston slap, but it only does it when the temp is under 10 degrees ? (takes about 10 mins to get warm enough to stop it)

has not done it for the last two weeks or so as it has warmed up.

 

my 03 WRX is a little noisy on cold mornings too. Seems to combine with slightly higher startup revs for a little while. Wouldn't describe it as diesel like, more like slightly throaty.

 

My 03wrx (7k)is the same and it only appears when the first blip of the throttle in the morning,had it back to the dealers but he couldnt hear it,unfortunatly its one of those faults that only happens briefly on first start up.my last scooby didnt make this horrible noise.
