So what do you reckon then WRX with PPP and springs and larger wheels or STI and maybe PPP at later date. Would WRX PPP be cheaper on insurance??

I have an 03 WRX and am looking for an STi PPP - as a drivers car, a well run in STi is awesome! I always intended to put the PPP on my WRX - but no more ......

Was in the same position 3 months back and didnt know what to go for. After driving both I decided on the Sti. I now want to add the PPP.

 

Sti PPP and srpings. Awesome. Decided whether you want comfort or a quick point to point car. The Sti point to point wins everytime. But I'm biased as I have had mine a year now

 

Adding the PPP to the WRX will (usually) increase your insurance way beyond what it would cost for a standard STi. Unless you're over 30 and can go with a mod-friendly insurer.
But remember, if you go for the STi, you'll probably want to put the PPP on there anyway

Are you using it day-to-day for commutin?

If so - go for the less manic WRX.

If its a toy then the harsher more focused STI makes more sense.....

For day to day use I have a WRX wagon with PPP, 18" wheels and Prodrive springs. Apart from excessive roll (not a big problem) and a lack of 6th gear (gearing too long) it is very impressive. I wanted a wagon and 4 airbags, so the Sti was not an issue.

None of the extras affected the insurance with Liverpool & Victoria.

 

Go with an STI

I use mine day-to-day upto 700 miles a week

I only have the springs at the mo but saving for that PPP

WRX with PPP and Prodrive Springs here and well pleased. Had the car almost a year and I like the fact its more understated than the STi but can still do the business against much more expensive cars with drivers who expect to kick the *** of a "lowly WRX".

 

I've just bought an 03 WRX & I love it, but I do think it needs stiffer springs

How much were the Pro drive springs ?
& how much do they lower the car ?
Is it still a comfortable ride ?

 

Springs fitted with 4 wheel geo for £369 @ Sub dealer. Lowers car by 25mm @ front and a bit less at back. Ride still very comfortable but still too much roll - dampers really need replacing as well but Prodrive don't seem to offer this as an option.

 

WRX/PPP has just about the same performance as an unmodded STi unless you're prepared to keep the STi 'on the boil' at or above 4000 revs. STi/PPP blows both away, and has the benefit of making the car that bit more driveable at lower revs - you don't have to drop a cog every time you ease off for any reason. Break the bank and go for one

I had this same problem when I was looking and I thought about a WRX with PPP, but then realised that I preferred (amongst other things) the look of the STi with its HUUUUGE scoop and spoiler and realised I would probably end up upgrading parts like the brakes to Brembos or similar if I went for BIG mods in the future etc. and I preferred the STi interior.....so I went for the STi

 

G Tomo - I got the springs done at the same time as the 10k service so it worked out slightly cheaper (about £320 I think). I personally think its just right with the uprated springs as the ride is noticeably firmer but not uncomfortably so. As for it still rolling too much, I cant say I've noticed this being a problem personally but maybe I just dont drive fast enough!!
