Tyre wear
Ok, heres an open ended question: whats the tyre wear on new scoobs like? I have a 1 month old MY04 WRX and have done about 2000miles. I keep reading about high running costs cos tyres wear out... never had a 4WD drive motor before, so dont know what to expect. I used to get about 10k out of fronts on a alfa 156 (only 155bhp though).
I still cant get over how much I love this car though! Dont care if they only do 3K :-)

Personally I've found the Scoob has put up with me much better than any other car I've had.
All my previous cars I used to do a set of fronts in about 6,000 miles, I reckon I oughta get 10,000 out of the set on the Scoob.

my 02 wrx had front changed at 12,000 and have still got the original rear's on after 22,000 is that a record?? and they are still legal as i've just had a service and asked the garage to check them, overall i've spent less on servicing and parts than i did with my old rover coupe!!!!!.except the ahem!!!fuel.

Virgin - the centre diff takes care of the 0.01% variation no probs!
My 03 WRX has just had a set of 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's (lovely) at 16,750 miles. I'm stunned the standard Bridgestone RE050's lasted so well given the abuse they got.
Would have got more miles, but the geo was set with no negative camber on the fronts (from the factory) so I wore the writing and the edges off. Heh Heh! Top tip - get your car on a good 4 wheel alignment rig ASAP. Dials out the understeer, adds loads more steering feel and saves the poor tyres!

The more grip you have, the less tyre wear you should have. Its the sliding around and poor suspension geometry which causes rapid tyre wear. The older Scoobies used to wear front tyres rapidly on the inner edges due to bump steer and bad geometry. With the bump steer removed the tyres wear evenly across the tread. I drive fast round corners but expect nearly 20K out of my fronts (Goodyear F1's) The grip is vastly improved too.
