Please tell me you only flash when you recognise someone you know.

I was quite amazed at the response when I got my Scooby in December but I have got used to it now.

I think the general rule is only wave when you can spare your hands to do so without going off and hitting something

Flashing is somewhat easier as it can be done with both hands on the wheel. It depends on your reaction time from seeing something coming towards you, noticing it's another Scooby and checking for the bonnet scoop, hopefully you can do this and still reach the flasher stalk before they pass you in a blur.

If you have time to recognise who it is your flashing then you're driving too slow

If you are in traffic, and therefore not grinning from ear to ear, it is much cooler just to raise your hand slightly from the wheel in acknowledgement

Hope this helps
Chris

I wave to impreza's if I see them, even if they're GL's, do get some odd looks but sometimes you do get a smile or a nod, or even a wave back from them.

I don't usually flash (due to the risk of being called pervert ) mainly as the dude in front of me probably thinks I want him outta my way.

Mulder,

It's not that simple - what if you don't want to be flashed at in the first place - no offence guys, it's lovely that you love your cars that much , but my wife is going to think it's increadibly sad if everyone waves at us, and demand that we change the car for a beetle (especially after I've clained that a Subaru's residual value is great) - actually, beetle drivers probably stop and exchange addresses.

Triggaaar:
You're right about beetle drivers. My brother has a 1971 (I think!) VW Beetle and he always waves and flashes at other beetle drivers, and I've not yet seen a beetle owner no reciprocate!

To be honest I've only ever been waved at and not flashed at, well not by scooby owners

I have a nicely tuned black 69 beetle and have been an enthusiast for 12 years. We always wave as an acknowlegement of the pride of driving something different and fun. I guess its for the same reasons that I wave at Imprezas when Im in my scoob.
Trigaaar, there are a few addresses I wouldnt have minded stopping to get....if you know what I mean. There are some fit chicks in beetles out there

I flash at most scoobs i see and get a really good response normally, unless they are generally old and it's obvious they have nothing to do with the bbs... keeps things friendly... if you don't like it simply look away, it can be justified as a warning that you are there anyway.

Thumbs up

It's great when you see a car and acknowledge each other with a flash or wave and then get to meet the owner/s at a Scooby meet or something. Feels great - Thanks Bernadette and Howard !

The subtle wave works for me !
When I first got my scoob I missed a few waves from other 'enlightened ones' and felt dead guilty ! lol

I even had someone wave to me across 4 lanes (other side of the dual carriageway) - now that's friendly. My other half thinks it's sad and then she had some guy do the same when she was in her Golf GTI (Mk II of course).

I'll keep flashing (ooh err) and waving if others do too......

Without wishing to seem like some old, rather humourless git, isn't flashing a bit dangerous? What if someone thinks you are letting them out of a junction, and then you t-bone them?

I think all Scoobs should be fitted with a devcie not too dissimilar to the old pop out indicators on cars from the thirties. Hey presto, instant recognition to all Scoob drivers, but meaningless, and therefore harmless, to other road users!!!

Geezer

P.S. blubs and Maxwell, don't even think about posting something resembling an attempt at humour about me being old and humourless!!!

If someone could invent a Scoob detecting actuator for roof vents, then some Scoobs could auto-wave as Geezer suggests. Yep, I can see you're all painting pictures in your mind of it, right now!....coat on, back to work....

A flash shouldn't be taken as if you are letting someone out of a junction. When i took my driving test, The Highway code sensed that a flash was a warning that you were there and not to be taken otherwise.... of course if i saw a scooby at a junction , i would slow down and let them out, Airmanship as we pilots call it... so carmanship?...lol

My only problem is that we've just bought an RB5 (3 weeks ago) and the lights are on the other side from our last Scooby, so I keep on spraying the windscreen instead!! Getting the hang of it now though (or I just wave, saves on water!).
