Question

I've recently had a unichip fitted to an MY00 and it peaked and ran at 1.15bar OK. I then fitted an EVC valve controller and set high boost to 1.15bar and low boost to 0.9bar. It happily holds the low boost but won't even reach the high setting! I've tried resetting it, but still it won't reach and hold 1.15bar unless I set the controller to 1.3bar, which for obvious reasons I didn't try for long.
Could anyone who has got one of these trick devices please advise me where I'm going wrong and does your EVC hold the boost you've set it to.
TIA
Steve

Steve,

If the boost you are reaching is less than that set on the EVC IV reduce the offset and increase it if it's too high. Mine runs at 100 on low boost and achieves the 0.95 bar programmed but has been reduced to 76 to achieve the 1.15 high boost. I would guess that yours should be some where in the 76-80 area but there is an element of 'suck it and see' to tailor it to the individual car. Also, the programmable boost setting goes up in increments of 0.05 bar but you can get it to within 0.01 bar by using the offset. Hope this helps.

Raymond.

Steve,

sorry mate it was early. As Raymond says, decrease the values to increase the boost!

Steve,

there are two 'offset' values - one for low and one for high boost. If the EVC4 has been installed under the learning mode both of these offset values will be set at 100.

If your low boost setting is OK do not adjust the low offset. To get it to produce the high boost you require you need to increase the high offset value. Ensure this increase is in even increments. Try increasing the value by ten and see how close this gets, and alter up or down accordingly.

Mine is currently set at 1.2bar but it does fluctuate both up and down by .02bar - and I can't work out why - I thought these devices were meant to stop this!

Anyone any idea??

Thumbs up

Thanks guys, I'll try this tommorrow when the weather clears up!
What boost are you guys running, presuming you are using UK models?
Also, by how much does your boost fluctuate when you set it to say 1.15bar. Does it hold 1.15 or does it go down to 1.1 and back up to 1.15 or should it hold a steady 1.15 all the time when flat out?
Thanks for your help

Steve,

I am running boost as per my post above at 0.95/1.15 and use the offset to achieve 1.18 as the actual higher boost figure and it does fluctuate slightly on the EVC. I think that it is because the EVC is so sensitive (look at it at tickover and it is flickering away) but the reading on my boost gauge is steady at 1.18. Cheers.

Raymond.

Cool

Raymond & Mo
thanks for your help. I haven't got it running exactly how it should be yet, but it's on it's way. Offset is now at 76 and it is holding 16psi. I didn't really get much of a chance to test it as I need somebody else to be in the car with me to read the gauge as it's in the ash tray.
I'll probably move it up to the cup holder later, so that I can read it more safely.
Regards
Steve
