i am thinking off investing some cash in a radar detector and there seems to be loads available . anyone out there got any recommendations?

I've been looking myself for a detector. Haven't got one yet, but the Bel990i seems to rank very highly (cost you around £400).

They tested it and absolutely loved it, however I have stopped people who have complained that their Bel990 didn't tell them we were there, when we have fired the radar right at the unit from only a couple of centimeters away, the radar detector has done nothing.

I use a Snooper SD815i, have you "road tested one of these as well? If so, how did it perform? I invested £265 in this, but when I turned around recently to go past a couple of officers with their gun it didn't react - I think it was because they had already pulled someone over, so it wasn't aiming at me, although no doubt they have a good range!

A trick question, however I answer this it'll upset someone!!

Personally, I don't like them because of what they do. After all speed kills and some people (a minority) use them so they can drive like total ars*holes. Everything's fine until they kill someone.

If you want to spend £250 - £500 of your hard-earned cash on one of these things just remember that they don't always work and they don't detect everyting that we use (e.g VASCAR). If you continually speed, and use these detectors as a way of getting 'around the law' one day you will get caught by something you haven't detected and your precious clean license which you bought the jammer/detector to protect now has decorations. Insurance goes up etc.

How about, saving the ££££ and easing off the speed a bit, and saving it for the track?

I've got the BEL 980 but i would recommend the Bel 990 for that early Gatso warning. The 980 seems to let u know when your into the 2 photo target area and u need to scrub a lot of speed off quickly, whereas the 990 lets u know prior to the grey box so your stopping isn't so aggressive.

I agree its still not an excuse to go berserk on the road.

Thanks for your honest response,we all know that excessive speed kills and we should be responsible when driving the scoob about but when you get pulled for doing 70.56 mph in a 60 zone dry,clear road Saturday afternoon it does really p*** you off!
I am not saying that it is right to break the law because i was and if you get caught you get done thats life but in that situation i may have had enough notice to drop below 60 mph and pass by the boys in blue and just smile!!!!!!!
