Question

If I sit in the car parked up with the engine running for a while (while catching up on the phone etc) I get a strong smell of burning oil when I drive off, it was so bad the other day that I had the window open all the way up the M40 in the rain.

I'm not using stacks of oil but it does seem to have a litre every 3-4k.

Any ideas? I'm taking it in for a look next week though.

:-)

Sounds like cam cover gasket on turbo side, doesn't normally happen on cars until they're about 4-5yrs old though!

Oh, is that bad news? Could that have happened when the down pipe was de-catted? My main agent did that anyway, so hope that warranty will be ok.... Gulp!

it's not serious if that is what it is, shouldn't take the garage very long to sort, it's only a gasket change!

I must have an odd one, it wore out the rear pads long before the fronts etc etc!

Thanks for the help!

You might want to check the transmission oil level. In my previous scooby, the mechanic overfilled the transmission by a quart and a half. After a run on the German Autobahn I had a horrible burnt oil smell comming into the car each time I would stop. The oil was overflowing from the top when driving at high speed. I had the mechanic drain the oil to the proper level and the problem was solved
