break down view of egine?
is there anyone who has a drawing or front view of the boxer engine.i have a strange noise comming from the drivers side of the engine when started from cold.could be cambelt tensioner or waterpump, but need front elavation of engine to confirm my suspision.any pic or drawing of the front of the engine without the cam covers on would be appreciated. cheers subsy
The same happened to my WRX03, I changed timing belt tensioner and crankshaft pulley (under warranty) and noise dissapeared but it was hearable from co-driver side mainly in the back of the engine, fortunately Subaru mechanic diagnosed it at once. You can easily confuse the noise with piston slap or failed bearing so don't worry until you visit an authorised service!
Hope it's not something bad
By the way does your car "drinks" oil as mine and many other MY03 both WRX and STI?

Took Cam cover off today to find out there are slight laserations in the cam-belt? whatever has done this has cought the cambelt all the way round on the outside and its directly in the centre of the belt not quite sure what this could be but im gettin pretty worried. Any ideas
If the timing belt is showing signs of physical damage, get it changed, ASAP, and have the garage have a close look at the tensioner and pulleys while they're there.
If there's a score mark all the way round it, overwhelming likelihood is that something's been rubbing against it, so check for obvious bits of sticky out debris and similar inside the belt cover. Could also be that the bearing in one of the idler pulleys is failing, forcing the belt to run off-centre. Either way, it needs looking at and correcting.
