I'm just wondering what should be the average oil pressure be in an Impreza. The reason I'm mentioning this is that my idle has started to vary and the code 24 - now I've read a good few posts about this and will try the various steps to clear it...

My query is more with the oil pressure. I bought my car with an oil pressure guage already fitted.

When I start the car when cold it's quite high - around 6 BAR and then falls as it gets warmer - and can tick over around the 1.75 to 2 bar area. Is there a Subaru low oil pressure warning light on the dash and also can/would this be by-passed with the fitting of the guage as this hasn't come on?

Also, the guage also fluctuates quite rapidly when it's idling due to the code 24 (ISC??) I expect. Is this normal as sometimes it gets quite low 0.5 BAR when the revs hit low.

Any info or tips on this subject are more than appreciated.

As a yardstick my 99MY with 12000mls. on the clock runs 100psi (6.8 bar) when cold at 2000rpm, 80-85+ psi (5.4-5.8 bar) when hot and idles at 40psi (2.7bar) hot. This using 5/50 Valvoline full synthetic.

2.5 PSI! Good God I knew it was low but didn't think it was that bad.

Mine idles around 35ish hot, up to around 90 when at full tilt. Until warm, expect 100PSI+ for a while.

1BAR = 14.5PSI

 

I get 7 bar from stone cold, about 5-5.5 bar on full chat when warm and 1.5bar on warm idle/ 0.5bar is extremely low.

I'd agree with Stef..have it looked at as soon as possible.

Any idea what thickness oil is in it? I wonder if it's possible for the Mobil one 0w 30 to get this low? Just thinking out aloud really, definately get it seen to,

There is a low-pressure light but it doesn't come on until 2.5psi, ie, it's worthless.
It may have been disconnected when the gauge was fitted though.
Mine idles at 33psi at runs at 88psi when hot.
If it's going to 0.5bar at any point I'd get it looked at asap.
