Unhappy

I have a '97 type R which has a habit of popping out of gear when in reverse. Reverse also sounds like a bag of nails!

As if that wasn't bad enough, the rear diff is also very noisy.

Do they both need reconditioning?

Does anyone know of a good engineering firm capable of carrying out the work and what I might expect to pay, gulp!!!

I understand the type R has a unique gearbox and rear diff, typical!

Words of wisedom, comfort and consolidation will be appreciated.

Not sure about the diff rebuild but I think yoou're looking at about £600 for a gearbox rebuild (excluding parts).

Regarding a reputable rebuilder - where are you from ?

Chris.

I spoke to Power Engineering today and they recommended a company call Dome Engineering in Birmingham.

Apparently, they do work for Prodrive on the rally cars!!

I gave them a call and they say thay can do the rear diff and gearbox in 5 - 7 day for about £800 + parts, ouch!

By the way I'm located in High Wycombe, Bucks.
