hi
i took my car to a garage for a major service
96 wrx plugs, all filters, oil change and the dreaded timing belt
since it came back the radiator is pouring with water from the side seal and the turbo whilst coming in at 3 thousand revs seems to hit a brick wall at 4 thousand and acts as though its at the top of the rev limiter
im taking it back to the garage obviously
but im concerened about driving it there as the temp gauge is on full

please help guys

sounds like they may have forgotten to reconnect the radiator fans. To do a cambelt you have to remove the radiator. Take a look under the front of the car and you should be able to see 2 connectors for the fans off the wiring loom that runs allong the front lower chassis. You could have one buggered engine if that is the case and you drove on it for any length of time.

If they are disconected, dont do anything, call the garage and get them to collect it, look at it, preferably get an independant to take a look too before anyone does any work, incase things have gone pair shaped and they dont do the right thing.

 

On reading again, you say it's leaking from the side seals? Do you mean the radiator has burst allong the end tanks?

 

yes the radiator is leaking along the right hand side as you look at the car

 

OK, then i would say the radiator failed when it was removed from the car to do the cambelt. Get them to collect it, dont drive on it!

any idea why the turbo is hitting what seems to be fuel cut in 4 thousand revs?

 

They may have over-filled the oil, therefore choking the boost soleniod.

Once the oil has been checked and adjusted (if necessary) the soleniod needs to be flushed out with a cleaner (carb cleaner is best).

i presume i just check it with the dipstick?

 

John is correct about the radiator and getting them to pick it up,they may have drained it by removing the drain plug which is a no no as it never re-seals properly or it may just be the bottom hose isnt tight.
One good thing with the MY01 onwards model is you dont need to remove the rad to do the cam belt and upset all the hoses.

As for the boost issue,try cleaning the solenoid as its a common fault straight after the car has had a service.
