Question

I have had a good quote from a body shop on tidying up some of my paint work. I do, however, have some concerns. Where is the come back if the car is stolen while they have the keys? What if the tracking unit is removed while it is there and the car is then taken (my insurance company will probably wriggle out of any claim!!)? Should I put something in writing to the body shop before I hand over the keys? How do I know they are well covered by insurance? Help!!

Surely whilst the car is in their care, it's protected by their trade insurance?

Yes. But the trade policy may only pay out the "trade" value of the car

pick a respected repairer someone with vbra membership or something like that, then ask them where you stand most of them should tell you it wont happen or if it does, they will cover you, tehy have to cover that eventuality i would imagine if they are gonna store expensive cars over night

Wouldnt your insurance only give you trade price if it was stolen from your house? Admiral did with me a few years ago.

The best thing to do would be to go to the guy who runs the bodyshop and voice your concerns to him , ask him questions , im sure he would be more than willing to help you. You only get trade price anyway with insurance payouts dont you.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I have checked www.vbra.co.uk but this paintshop isnt listed.

I have voiced my concerns to my contact there, but I am not sure my quoting him would hold any weight in court!
