This is my first post and not wanting to look a plonker I am after advice about the running in of a new motor. I have 200 virgin miles on the clock and keeping around 3 grand on the rev counter, obviously there is no boost hence no performance yet so when would it be suggested to explore the upper regions of the big clock as I am eager to see if it is anything like my old car (STI Type R V4). Odds are I am going to be dissapointed after reading some threads!!

Sorry M8 its no joke i have had that many people offering varying degrees of advice like plant it from the word go and you'll get the best from the motor (i think not) to gradually nurse it up to the 1K mark so I'm sorry if you thought I was taking the rice but it was intended as a serious question (obviously I am a plonker).

You are not a plonker. You show some good sense in seeking advice. You must run in the car for the first 1K, then get it serviced, and then you will be ok pushing it.

However if you have paid your own hard earned money for the car you will probably want to adopt the approach, post 1K service, of having some fun while being mechanically sympathetic!

I run an STi7, so I speak from experience. The miles will soon rack up, sufficient for you to get the 1K service done and under your belt.

It is alleged that Subaru use a very thin oil from new to allow the pistons, etc, to bed in, hence it NOT being a good idea to hammer the car from new. The oil change at the first service sorts this out by putting in the proper stuff at that time.

Welcome to Scoobynet . I too ran in my STi7 cautiously. Kept below 4k revs for the first 1000 miles and ensured that I didn't sit at any speed/revs for too long. Following the 1k service I gradually increased the revs used by 0.5k intervals over the next few hundred miles. My Sti7 now has 22k on the clock and it does loosen up after the first few thousand miles.

You should consider doing a 6 monthly oil & Filter change 12months is a long time for a High performance engine oil IMHO

Cheers Tony, I'll bear that in mind, I always changer the oil in my previous car after 6 months so I will probably be doing the same again. What oil would you recommend as again I have heard different opinions, I used Castrol R 10w 60 in my Type R.

I alway have Fully synthetic Oil done at the dealer's. They would normally put a Semi-synthetic in, unless you ask for Fully. I am not certain what make it is though
Check the Oil level often as some 7's use more oil after PPP was fitted, mind you some didn't. Mine uses about 1/2ltr every 1Kmiles
