I have been offered a TEK2 of another Impreza and I'm considering buying it as I'll be saving a couple of hundreds squids than getting a new map. However, here are some questions:

1. Is the TEK 2 a fixed map or will it have been mapped to fit that car and therefore not optimised for mine?
2. I have to exchange it for my ECU - will this just be a simple swap?
3. What about future upgrades (although not really that likely now with full decat) - will the TEK2 'learn'?
4. Anything I should look out for?

I'll be parting with a fair few hard earned, so any help would be much appreciated.

1. Yes, the Tek-2 is a fixed map. There will be one standard for an outlet, but another outlets Tek-2 could be different.
2. If it's the same version - yes, I believe so. There may be a complication with reassociating the keys with the car.
3. It will 'learn' to a certain degree, but with anything other than minor modifications you should consider a proper (custom) remap. If the ECU already has an open ECUtek license on it, the custom map should be cheaper anyway.
4. Consult an Impreza specialist on all of the above.

I'm a bit worried about 2 though. If the one I'm buying was a drop in replacement and it is disconnect and inserted in mine, there shouldn't be any difference as the ECU will effectively be reset?

As for 4, well thats why I tried here!

 

Resetting, AFAIK, just wipes the error logs and compensation tables. There's certain data within the ECU that isn't erased on reset. Like the maps, for example.

I understand that it requires a Subaru Select monitor to associate keys with ECUs. Dealerships and Impreza specialist shops have these.

I would still contact an Impreza specialist to be sure!
