tracker do one for i think abt 200-250. very basic, u call when car nicked and they start tracking. will not call u to confirm when car moved though, that's the more expensive option.

the rest like rac, navtrack will be more expensive.

Scooby Stu - as I found out - most insurance companies are not interested in the passive systems like the basic tracker.

I have an RAC Trackstar Protector fitted by an Ace mate of mine in High Wycombe, who is not only ex-Porsche GB, but has an amazing attention to detail. I know he has done quite a few Scoobs - which helps, so if you want someone to talk to about it - I can't recommend him highly enough!!

There was an RAC Trackstar system already fitted to the MY02 WRX I bought but it did me no favours with the Insureres...anyone else get this??

I'm insured with Elephant and they said the tracker makes no odds to my policy!!

Elephant are one of the few who don't require Trackers, so may be a good bet - but the way Scoobies are being upgraded (as a more significant risk) means that they may well be essential next year!
Most insurers I spoke to said upfront - "we don't insure them without an active tracker" ........
I know the guy who runs Greenlight and they are not taking on any more Subaru new business due to the hit the underwriters have taken on thefts / owner writeoffs ....

I also wanted one for peace of mind / to help catch the buggers ...

the difference between elephant & direct line was £300 but with
the RAC Trackstar coming in at £900ish I gotta decide if its worth
the extra £600

Thoughts?

Mark roughly what did u pay for yours? if you don't mind me asking

I've got tracker monitor, £299 +£150 fitted plus £109 per year.
see here for costs:-

Having one fitted will increase the choice of insurers you can go with, which has got to be an advantage!

Various tracker systems available these days.

An ever increasing number of insurers are insisting that trackers are fitted to various higher spec cars to try and reduce the number of claims for cars that disappear off the face of the earth following a theft. Insurers are often paying out for vehicles that are stolen and never recovered. A tracker vastly reduces the odds of that happening as the vehicle should be recovered very soon after it is taken.

There are still a few insurers that aren't bothered about trackers but I would think that even they will go down the compulsory tracking route if the theft situation in this country doesn't improve.

You generally find that the insurers that aren't bothered about whether you fit a tracker or not will not give you much of a discount if you do fit one.

Tracker Retrieve is generally the cheapest one at around £199 fitted plus £99 annual subscription. Its generally okay but doesn't activate automatically in the event of a theft. For this reason there are many insurers that are removing it from their approved lists.

Tracker Monitor is much better and will rob you of around £440 plus the £99 subs.

RAC Trackstar, Navtrak Proactive and Tracker Horizon are generally very good too and use GPS, but they will deprive you of £500+ plus subs...

Hope this helps...

Scooby Stu - Trackstar dealers can't discount .... officially, but I have just talked to Alan and he is prepared to give away some of his fitting cost to do it for any any Scoobynetters at £550!

Alan Hart - "Sounds Alarming" - 07958 967729

He recommended the additional cost over the Tracker for the same reason that he is a Trackstar installer and not Tracker (they only let you be a solus supplier) as he says it is a more sophisticated, sensitive and reliable system - and as he installs them I went with his recommendation.

I pay my subscription quarterly £30 per quarter ....
