whining noise coming from the steering/transmission..?

Dear All
Whilst out and about today I hit a deep hole in the road at some speed resulting in a neavy 'clonk' (technical) term. There's no damage to the tracking (no pull off centre) either in drive or braking. I'm however to notice more noise from the transmission during engine braking and pulling away in lower gears than usual. Also when stationary and turning the wheel (not on tarmac but a loose-ish) surface I hear the power steering droning I can't remember hearing it before.
I guess I would have hit the hole at about 30 mph. Am I being paranoid could I have done some damage and is there an easy way to find out?

Easiest way to find out is to pop into your local friendly Scooby dealer.
My ones going in on Wednesday to get a funny grinding noise checked (wheel bearing/CV joint).
