FUEL FOR MY99
#1
HAVING JUST READ AN ARTICLE IN AUTOCAR ABOUT FUEL, I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE USING NORMAL UNLEADED FUEL IN THEIR CARS.
ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOTICED THAT ON THE FUEL FLAP THAT IT SAYS TO USE SUPER UNLEADED I HAVE NEVER REALLY TAKEN MUCH NOTICE.
MY CAR DOES NOT SEEM TO BE SUFFERING FROM 95 EON FUEL BUT I WONDER WHAT IF ANY LONG TERM AFFECT IT MAY BE HAVING.
THE PERFORMANCE SEEMS TO BE O.K TO ME AND HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY KNOCKING FROM THE ENGINE.HAVING SAID THAT I WONDER IF I WOULD GAIN ANYTHING TO RUNNING ON SUPER UNLEADED.
ANY THOUGHTS

In Australia, the best fuel we have is only 95 RON (the *******s). No WRX owners have had any problems with detonation unless the car were modified. Some STI owners have encountered detonation though.

Grant, I'd use Super unleaded if I were you.
Before I used super unleaded, I heard a crackling sound coming from the engine. I changed to Super unleaded and almost immediatley, I've noticed smother power delivery and the crackling sound has dissappeared.
I think its worth spending a bit extra in order to keep the engine in better condition .
Thanks,
Sonu...

It says super on the filler cap, but that is only because 95 ron is called super in other countries, it doesnt mean 98 ron fuel. Although saying that 98 does make it feel a lot smoother on acceleration and general running All I can say is try super for a couple of tanks and see if it makes a big enough difference to you, to justify the extra expense. You wont notice much difference until about the second or third tank, because the system has to get all of the 95 out, before it can remap itself properly.

The super unleaded fuel only sticker relates to countries where lower grades of fuel than the 95 RON minimum we get here in the UK are available. If you ask Subaru UK, then 95 RON fuel is fine.
The cars runs perfectly well on this fuel, but does run noticably better on 98 RON super unleaded. Whether individual owners can justify the extra cost and hassle (not every station sells super) is up to them.
