Anyone dissapointed with STi8 PPP??
IIRC, an STi8 with PPP did 324bhp @ Well Lane 5 a few months back. Fookin' impressive for a car thats "nearly" bog standard and comes with warranty. That may have been the raw figure, not the corrected figure so it may have been lower, but it was definately over 300.

very happy with my PPP - 15k on clock.
not had it on rolling road. did notice big improvement over standard which I ran for 2-3k from new before PPP.

Very happy with my PPP.
Was on the rollers a few months back, std STi8 got 269,
will be back to the same place week on Sunday, with PPP,
so I will have reasonable reference points.
Will report back after 14 sept with results.

I've seen a few comments on lag on the PPP which is funny because it is at full boost 1000rpm before the standard car! That would indicate that the standard car is much more laggy.....
More important than the 40bhp gain and the 55ft-lbs of torque gain is the improved torque spread which makes the car much more drivable

As long as you want an absolutely watertight warranty then for sure it's worth £2k, to be honest I couldn't live with a standard STI8, way too laggy zero low down power. Had mine PPP'd shortly after the first service so was able to do a 'proper' before and after comparison too.
Still, getting a test drive in one is really easy so why not just go try it for yourself?

An after thought on boost.
In 5th gear, about 1500 rpm, floor the accelerator.
Pre PPP, hit 1bar boost at 3.5K
With PPP, hit 1bar boost at about 2.9 - 3k
(i say about, because the revs are rising much faster, and it is difficult to watch the rev counter, boost gauge, and the road)

Also had mine standard for 1.5k mls and then put PPP. I found it has greatly improved the car. From 3.5kRPM it is very quick.
I've decided to keep the warranty intact this time as I have a bit of a warning with the previous car. Thank god I left that alone when no:4 went @ 2.5 years ( & 30k miles).
Haven't done rolling road, but will visit powerstation later in the year.
I would go and test drive one, see if you can get one with a PPP and another without.

I'm very happy with my STi8 PPP. I drove it without for the first 4000 miles or so, and the difference was significant. I think some people are mixing up turbo lag, with the rev range over which the turbo provides usefull boost.
With the standard STi, you dont' get much action before 4000 revs, which I didn't enjoy very much having come from a MY00 UK turbo, and a torquey 205 GTi before that, so the PPP came as a great relief and made the car much more driveable.
As far as Turbo Lag goes, the delay between foot down and the turbo spinning efficiently (kick in the back) at a given RPM is noticeable, but not any sort of problem once you learn to anticipate it.

Had PPP fitted from new, so cannot compare with standard STi. But, 6000 miles on the clock now and am very happy with it.
I must borrow/rent a slow car for a while, so that I can really appreciate the power once again!!

To add my say, I had mine fitted a few weeks ago at just over 1200 miles, I am very dissapointed, I was expecting the car to feel much more lively and be very quick, but just hasn't had that effect at all, the good thing that has come from having it done is the sound! 6th gear performance is still awful, my old 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth at 300BHP would blow it away in top gear.
My dad had his STI8 done the week before and is pleased with it, so we shall have to swap and compare.
Maybe I was just expecting too much...

ChrisJD, I agree top end performance in a Scoob really is very poor, I find anything over 80mph is quite limp
My Escort Cosworth used to pull like a train at 100mph in top, I assume this is all down to the weeny turbo we are running but then its nice to have relatively no lag further down the rev range

There is also the issue of a 3 year warranty to take into consideration, not bad for a 300 brake, 4 door saloon for under 30K

did test drive a PPP car when my standard one was at about 500miles, and being run in, so the PPP car felt quicker, as it was run in - will see about getting another run booked, now mine is run in and feels quick!
Im sure from the comments the PPP is good, I just dont want to be like ChrisJD - spend another 2 grand and be a bit dissappointed
anyone know of any dealers who lend out PPP'd cars for 1/2 or full day, as opposed to a 'quick blast', to properly appreciate the difference? My dealer wont lend out, only do accompanied drives.

i dont think any dealer will lend you a car for that long but i can recomend listers at worcester, they gave me a couple hours in two cars and then lent me tidy wrx for the day when they fitted my ppp at 1200 miles.
as to whether its worth the money, the answers no but then will any of the third party suppliers warrant your car for three years?
compared to the p1 before this sti8, yes its laggier but in the real world its no slower than an m3 upto 120 and ifs its wet our kid parks his beemer up.

ChrisJD & Brewstaa, you may find that the STi is quicker than you think - it certainly is a lot faster than it feels, compared to the old Scoob and probably even more so to a Cossie.

Already checked with Prodrive UK (phoned and emailed) and got a reply from Simon Lines that PPP is only available for UK and EU models. This seemed strange as there is Prodrive in Thailand and Singapore but maybe they only do STi window stickers and foot pedals?...sigh

Do you get the JDM model in Hong Kong then? I'm almost certain that South Africa, Australia and New Zeland get the same model as Europe (may be slight differences but the same engine and drivetrain (as opposed to the different JDM model)) so I assumed this was the model you would get?

yup i find my STi8 a bit flat from stand still until about 4000 revs then boom..... so im getting the ppp done in a couple of weeks and the prodrive handling pack to to stop that annoying bounce !!!!!
i hope the ppp will help to get rid of that initial 1st gear take off flat spot !!
by the way, how and when do you use the water spray button for the intercooler !?!?!?!?!?! lol

PPP doesn't get rid of the 'first gear initial take-off flat spot' I'm afraid, you have to drive around it...slip the clutch, dial in lots of revs. That and the bouncy springs were the reasons I sold my STI8PPP after only 5 months and 4k miles.

its a bit of a dissapointment fart but i dont think it ruins it that much for me, stll bags more grin factor even as standerd STi8 than classic i had, as for the 'bounce bounce bounce' ive been assured the prodrive handling pack will take care of it

i dont do 120... call me a sad git but i never get much of a kick out of that, i mean most cars no matter how sh1te will do a ton.... and i worry about one mistake an pancake city, i just enjoy the fast accelleration and the cornering side of things
