Your right I have soundly thrashed myself with birch twigs and written a letter of apology to Subaru for making one of their bonnets wobble LOL!

Wink

andy didnt mean to sound like a boring ****** who was being patronising to ya, but you have to admit, that cornering and feeling that lovely slide that you can still drive and the pulling away an overtaking are the real pleasure, i mean how many times have you been going faster than the speed limit and a crappy little fiesta or sommit buzz's you right up your rear end wanting to get past......... like i said virtually any car can do a ton, but not may accelerate or handle or sound like a scoob

Cool

PPP Done today & even Pre Run-In it's Stunning. Going to be an absolute B***dy nightmare sticking to the self imposed 3500 rev limit light & bleep reminder with the turbo kicking in so early & the revs rising so much faster. Can't wait for the 1K to really see what it can do.
Prodrive springs fitted at same time & initial tentative reaction V favourable too!
Cheers
Ste
PS StiPaul, thanks for the info on Sunday. Very impressive results & another TTS top day (after NBO).

agree completely it was just that I was coming back down the M69 on that particular day and a new M3 flashed me when I was in the fast lane doing 80 with another car in front!

So as he went past I thought I would see if I could keep up and just sit there, the Scoob did very well until I started seeing the bonnet flapping which worried me a tadge so I slowed down as I didn't fancy drivin with me head out the window LOL!

and back to the subject I tried a couple of launches tonight and it made me and I also agree with whoever it was that said the Scoob is faster than you think, since then I have been noting the speeds you can do on a deserted B road, its quite frightening!

I don't tend to push on when other cars are about but the Scoob flatters my driving ability and I would imagine most motors would be left behind on a couple of my special routes home from London!

SO....

NO I'm not dissapointed with my STi with PPP

keep up is a difficult concept to explain, so I'll try and describe it in a way thats simple, NO LOL! You won't keep up with one in a straight line on a motorway not in my car anyway, but I'm sure on a normal road there would be nothing between 'em.

Unfortunately I'm not that good a driver to worry about that either

I did 2K in mine before PPP - pathetic - I was going to sell it - I missed my old classic. how they can sell the car without PPP is a disgrace since it is barely acceptable. Put PPP on - love the car, its completely different - of course the flat spot is still there, just have to rev the **** out of it at the lights

right, just got my Sti8 ppp'd yesterday, got the prodrive springs done to,
so......the car looks great, sits lower and is less bouncy than before...
it sounds lovely, although not as nice as my 99 classic after that was prodrived !!! [wonder if they have altered the zorst now]...not as raspy at high revs as the 99 ppp, but still far nicer than before
..now...the performance, well it seems to climb the revs far far quicker....[is this normal] and its less jerky on the power delivery, more smooth, but it doesnt really 'feel' quicker, although i know from speeds im hitting ant certain landmarks where i live that it is quicker..
any one any similar comments to share ???

Question

Hmmn. Having had a drive in an FQ300 over the weekend - and being mightily impressed - I'm leaning towards a move over to the dark side. Not really convinced that the STI is the car to replace my beloved classic.

Unhappy

If you look back at page one to ChrisJD's post you will see how disappointed he is with the conversion, we have since found out why! I have driven the car and have confirmed that it is well below what it should be. It was rather like driving a powerful non-turbo car with 5th and 6th gear performance "leisurely"
Last weekend we rigged up a boost gauge, kindly lent to us by our local dealer, and tried acceleration runs in various gears and the most we saw was 0.85 bar!! and it struggled to reach that! The car is booked in for investigation but it feels as if the ECU thinks either the intake temp. or the coolant temp. is too high and is limiting the boost to the progammed "safety" value? So, hopefully it is a sensor problem, but that sounds too easy !!
My STi PPP hits around 20psi so if anyone is really disappointed check the boost level first.
JohnD

Edited 'cos I was disappointed to have spelt disappointed wrong!

Thumbs up

Got mine, imedietly went for a test over the moors! It was pissing down and in all hanesty it didn't feel like 2k worth of power hike... This was driving in None PPP in & 2 hours later picking it up. But I'd left the Aircon on and it saps power muppet! I then went for another blast and it does feel quicker, not sure if 2k worth; but quicker... I was wondering if it was actualy running the 300 BHP but it run a really good time at the track 13.04 so it must be on form to run the time! Would like another 30 BHP though, but can't compremise the Warranty...
So yes happy with mine, and like someone said: get it over your fav B road and its amazing! Or and I forgot it sounds the dogs danglies with the PPP. All in all Happy

Got mine PPPeed at 2,500 miles much nicer to drive, smoother right from about 2000 rpm, boost in much earlier and seems more progressive, pull at 100 in top quite amazing.
Can actually see the fuel gauge needle dropping, scary but then I didnt buy it for the fuel economy.
Get it done no doubt about it huge grin factor ...

interesting what boost should a STi with PPP be hitting then??

as I would say my car is nothing more than adequate at 100 in top

how is the easiest way for me to get the boost pressure checked out?

Ok..
I have had my First Scoob for nearly 5 Months now, Ordered it with ppp and had to wait for parts so had the time to get used to the Std Sti8 and then appreciate the PPP. Bounce is a nightmare... I drive up and down the A13 regulary and heading towards southend at the M25 junc is a nightmare... Ive just bought a D reg mini and that bounces less!
I am goign to see about prodrive springs etc.... But the PPP is cool.. I do like.. I had an M3 up the a12 some time ago and we were even stevens up to 130 then we came to a nice tight right hander and I kept my foot down and left the bugger ( all I could see was his bonnet Dip as he braked )) He didnt bother after that!

On a boost note, I have PSI3 now and its severly affected by inlet temp. I had the chance to test a pipercross filter and inlet temp in heavy traffice was reachibg 50 to 60 ! Now I use an ITG and temps are wey lower using the Std airbox.. OK you loose the noise but hey lower temp is better. But back to boost, the PSI3 is reading around 1.3 Bar then it drops to about 1.2.. when its hot you can see about 1 bar! But Id rather save my engine.
All in all V pleased with PPP, just not impressed really with Top end torque... But hey jap motors are like that arent they?

well like i said earlier, my car 'is' faster i think !!! but it doestn feel that different, if anything it feels less 'mad' cos that bang of power that used to kick in around 4000 revs now seems to be more drip fed in at a constant rate from around 2500 upwards, so it picks up faster but less wallop at 4k, other thing i noticed today is the speed at which the rev counter seems to suddenly hit 3000 revs, early morning start an all i was trying to keep below 3k to warm up oil and it seemed to be there st8 away in up to 4th gear !!

My STI 8 has now done 4800 miles and I am bored. I test drove a PPPed STI 8...
It was ok. Quicker yes, well a bit, but I know in 6 months time I will want more.
I am going with one of the tuning companies for 340bhp ish. And with the money I can save from the PPP I will get the springs done.
Seeing as I intend to keep the car for 3 years and wont trackday it I reckon that the engine should be fine. I have spoken to a few tuners and they all say that the internals are ok for 350bhp.
Once its done I will write again and let you all know the difference.
cheers
Emily

john you ok with the loss of 'subaru' warrenty side of things then, cos the route your taking did cross my mind on several occasions, my attitude is ill be happy with the ppp, then when warrenty is up ill go for the sports cat down pipe and upgraded up pipe side of things to get that bit of extra upspool and kick..

Over the moon with my 02 STI7 PPP,had it about 2 mths before fitting,ok you lose the kick in the back but it just pulls for longer, now changed the exhaust to TSL Firestorm b/box and centre section,Green filter, now running about 325bhp/300lbs,and also changed suspension,r/bar,d/links,P/drive springs,18s,and strutbraces!,up to 1.5 bar boost and drops to about 1.4,it now goes and handles like it should of out of the box.

Got PPP,

The PPP is good and I have found the ECU has been good for a few more bits as well,

Add one nice Downpipe DE-Cat & Up Pipe all by HKS a Green Panel filter HKS Sequential BOV two bottles of octane booster with Optimax up the boost to run at 1.5 bar and one very heavy right foot and it shifts it really likes to move and pop and bang and whoosh and I need to go out for a drive I’m getting withdrawal symptoms
