Hi

I am considering purchasing a used My03 from a fellow scoobynetter named Chins. I have a couple of reservations in buying the said car and need some honest opinions.
1) The car has no log book which is at the DVLA at the moment (chins has owned this car for 4 weeks). Is it safe to buy this car the current owner can show me a reciept from the subaru garage to say it has been paid for. The cars tax runs out the end of october if I dont get the log book I am going to have trouble taxing it. (
2) Also and this is the biggie Will this car be safe on my drive. I will have a tracker fitted. I also plan on buying a disklok and some sort of wheel clamp. My biggest concern is someone trying to break into the house for the keys. (House is alarmed and I own a big dog)I live near the Merry hill centre in dudley are there any other owners who live in this area and leave the car on the drive? or have had any problems?
3) The car is mint and has only done 3.5K and chinns seems a genuine nice bloke to deal with I am sure any one who knows him will back this up.
Its just the whole private no come back thing.
Honest opinions only please.
Thanks

Chins changes cars more often than some people (no names) change socks. There's no dodgy reason for him not having the V5! For taxing it, you could always have Jonathan tax it if he gets the renewal through, but I'll bet that the V5 will come thru in time.

You need to decide whether or not you can live with the worry of having the car on the drive. No-one can answer that for you... Your call.

Don't worry about the car or Chins - that'll be right. Just work out in your head if you're happy with the car and take it from there. IIRC it's a silver wagon, which is quite anonymous. I like 'em, I've got one!

Cheers,
Nick.

I know the decision is with myself and no one can predict if the car or house will get damaged/stolen. I wondered if any one has had any trouble within the area I live in.

If it's a genuine UK MY03 you can set the immobiliser so that even if the key is nicked the car still won't start - there's a keypad in the dash (below the wheel and to the right where the fuses are).

Make sure this is fitted to your car, that you have the PIN number and that's one issue taken care of. Only downside is that you have to activate the alarm to get in the car (you have to open it with the key as the fob is ignored once set) to disable the immobiliser if you use this feature - make sure he gives you the supplementary instruction book for the immobiliser.

Re the disklok, get the small size – even though the wheel looks huge this is the right one.

Thumbs up

You dont need a v5 to tax a car. instead you need to fill in a v70(i think) application at the same time as taxing it.

The scum out there break into houses for car keys, for lots of makes of cars not just Scoobys. Don't let these tossers rule your life , get a deacent (LOAD) house alarm , and starve the dog a bit .

Enjoy it

I have only ever sold one of my other Scoobies privately on here. Dont think he will mind me mentioning it, but it was to Megabussa - my old UK STI 7 Prodrive.

I'd be a very bad dealer. Need David Beckham as my backer. My wife doesnt know how much Ive lost on cars Not having a bad year though.

Leon Cupra R - very low depreciation
Golf R32 - hardly any depreciation
Z4 - (owned for 1 hour) Made money for the first time ever
WRX PPP - Insurance paid me more than I paid for it , and I told them.
WRX

Now that Dave T-S is in the land of VX220 Turbos and Leon Cupra R's and isnt buying 2 Scoobies at a time I feel my record has a bit of a buffer. Keeping a close eye on Old Fart and Rum who will both of owned a further two Subarus this year

As mentioned. You dont need the V5 to tax a car. You can fill in a form. Worst case I can Tax it. If only the DVLA was as quick with its V5's as helping the police issue speeding tickets.

Also and this is the biggie Will this car be safe on my drive. I will have a tracker fitted. I also plan on buying a disklok and some sort of wheel clamp. With a dog in the house they are VERY unlikely to come in. I didnt have my alarm on, and left a small window open. No dog either. They had tried another house in the close, but the dogs put them off.

What next for me ? Well it looking like something from the Subaru stable. Measured the Garage tonight. Anyone know where I can buy a nice Justy ?

Jonathan
