I think the air to the turbo is channeled in through the air filter.

It wouldn't if it's got the wheels, brakes and the other stuff a turbocharged car is going to have!

Besides, quite like the idea of a 350bhp turbocharged Impreza that looks from the outside exactly like a Sport. Less chance of it being nicked, and less chance of it attracting the attentions of the d*ckh**d brigade at the traffic lights.

...you fit a front mount intercooler?

Surely this wouldn't be needed once installed. Also, if you buy a front mount intercooler such as the Blitz one, are they just bolt on or do you need to do some cutting to the bodywork?

Sorry if I'm being really stupid, but I've never done anything this extreme before.

Air flows onto the turbo heatshield through the scoop. Probably best to keep it.

Some off the shelf FMICs need bodywork cutting etc. However, the pace FMIC doesn't need any, and comes with a replacement radiator and uprated fans..... see scoobymania's website. (~£1000)

It will also channel air to a small part of the FMIC pipe work entering the manifold, might not be much but it helps. Seen some scoops turned around to draw hot air out.

I did read the references to Bob's experiments at Brunters. IIRC he found that underbonnet temperatures rose quite noticably if the scoop was blocked.

I like the idea of having a 'stealth' look to the car. However, the car needs the scoop. It's a trademark component. Wouldn't be the same without!

The question regarding the scoop is because I wish the car was more aerodynamic. Have you ever seen the bonnet on an STI8 travelling at 140MPH? It looks like the whole thing is going to fly up.

the main reason for the scoop is to cool the IC as this in turn cools the air that passes through the tubo the scoop still wouldn't be rendered useless though as this will still in effect cool the engine bay tempratures,

I beleive also there are a few aftermarket products for the scoop once you have fiited a FMIC they channel the air from the scoop to an airbox for better airflow to Induction kits,

hope this helps !!

but if your after removing the scoop i think you will probably find the temp in the engine bay will rise

The Impreza WRC that McRae drove had a front mounted intercooler and a bonnet scoop, however the scoop was for aesthetic purposes only - it was blanked off with a bit of carbon fibre underneath.
