If it was blue and had big wheels it was Si, if it was black and had 15" then it was probably Phil

If you see one with a stupid spoiler and gold wheels in 6 months time that'll be me with my build thats taking bloody ages to do!! I should see over 200bhp before nitrous with dta management @ 10-13psi (already got the map )

I bought the Ka because I couldn't afford to buy something with 200bhp new and afford to insure it, I've moddified my ka where I could and now I can afford to make it 200bhp. I park the Ka on the street, somewhere where I would not like to park a scooby or a cossie, I dont want 20-22mpg returns on a car, I dont want to rely on higher octane fuel just to get the performance out of it.

I also want a Q car, forget your whale tales and wings, I'm looking forward to every now and again wiping the smile of someone's face when they want to have a go at a little shopping car and they get wasted

People want so many different things out of cars, I would never critise anyone for their choices (well, viper stripes maybe ), who are you to critise anyway?

Here Here well said... each to their own.. a Ka is not for me tho (Im too big) I think the highly tune a standard car thing is brilliant - I remember once getting toasted by a old Skoda Favorite running a 2 litre block and a Garrett - very very humbling experience - I had to stop when he pulled in and just ask him what he had under the bonnet

[whisper] I like the look of the Street Ka [/whisper]

There I've said it Ooooh I feel all feminine - Pimms anyone?

Talking

Saw a Ka with an RS turbo lump at Santa Pod. He was embarassing quite a few people.....until his driveshaft snapped.

Poor fella!

He didn't look happy as everyone was leaving and he was waiting for a tow. I felt really sorry for him because his Mrs was NOT chuffed, judging by the look on her!

Bobfrog

How do you get any traction with 200bhp and front wheel drive
in a car that weighs about the same as a scooby spoiler.

It would need some self restraint

try getting the power down, i had a 170 bhp fiesta turbo and in the wet forget it, in the dry u spin in 3rd. 200 bhp in something that weighs less than a ryvita box is not my idea of an everyday car

I had a 212Bhp front wheel drive Ibiza Cupra and that was so hard to find grip when you planted you foot down

I think it's good that others can tune cars that some people would never give a second look at

I say fair play to you

greg, scoobynutta, Phil's is very quick off the mark because he has had the internals of an escort rs turbo gearbox put inside his bell housing with a quaife gear kit + quaife slipper

Phil's is a 2 litre by the way

I'll probably do the same and use the traction control option of the management (Phil is not using management, just the escort turbo ECU). I've also bought a stage 3 hybrid T3 (not a rollerbearing unfortunately) and having longer rods with shorter pistons so... the longer rods will produce more torque to get the car moving into turbo range which means it'll probably behave much like a normal 1800 (hopefully the torquey motor will counteract the lowered compression) until then, as this is a hybrid engine (1800 zetec bottom end and a 1600 rs turbo head, manifold etc) I wont really know until its on the road

Question

Don't get me wrong, I like KA's (have driven my Mum's on a few occasions and they are a great little car) but to an extent cannot see why someone would do this.

I understand not having the finances for a brand new 200bhp motor, but how much will all these mods in a KA end up costing!?

I ended up getting a completely standard Legacy Turbo, lowish miles with 197bhp for a few grand. I can leave it on the road, no-one looks and insurance is low (even allowing for gentle mods).

Sure it's gonna be fun blasting some poor sap off the lights, but I do question the finances (3k+ for the KA, god knows how much on mods!)

Anyway, enjoy!

Hi Tallsteve, I hear what you're saying mate, if I'd known how much I'd spent over the years at the start I would have done it differently but I am happy with what I have, I've learned so much by modifying the ka, I know what works well, what doesn't, which suspension is good etc.

One beauty about my engine build is it will fit in most shells from a fiesta to a focus so its not money totally wasted

just out of interest I just had a quote online with Tesco for a 94 legacy turbo worth £3K, the premium is £1400 for a standard one, that'd have been quite a bit bigger three year ago when I got the KA. Another reason for the ka or fords in general is I can get a staff discount through my stepfather, which can/has come in handy

bob frog has a point ... but nonetheless I'd prefer to pick up a girl in a shining scoob rather than a Ford Ka! However the running costs are stupid, and I totally sympathyse with doing the best with what you can afford.

But why not save your cash for a few years and by an evo or something? Anybody can get a shell of a crummy car and put a jet engine into it which will beat ferrari's, lambo's, zondas and harrier jump jets!

Bobfrog,

People have their opinions, but dont let them put you off. I think its excellent - nothing like a wolf in sheeps clothes - make sure you post here when you have toasted a few scoobies!

Mike, yes, they did but many people doubt their figures, here's the spec

Severnvalley built Phil's 8v, the one above is a 16v

they also did this 650bhp transit
