Today I went up to see the guys at Xtreme Scoobies in Essex, now ECUTEK sounds like the dogs doo dars and probably is. BUT.......

If I am going to spend £600 or whatever the price is for a remap (already having PPP)is this going to be £600 wasted for 30HP improvement?

Also popped into see the guys a Scoobysport too on the way back. /me waves

If your car's already PPP'd then you may not get good value out of an ECUtek remap. It depends on whether you're considering a custom map ("Tek-3") or a stock remap ("Tek-2"). A custom map should give better results than a PPP, however a custom map makes more sense if you car is more extensively modified.

IMHO, I'd say that if your car is standard apart from the PPP - then don't bother. If your car does have more mods then you may find good results from a custom map. Don't bother with a Tek-2, you probably wouldn't get good value for money if you're starting with a PPP'd car.

You will feel the difference more above 5,000 than below it. It will still give approx 30lbft more torque in the mid range (PPP 8's typically make 280-285lb), but the PPP tails boost off dramatically over 5,000 and this is where the really big gains will be. 40+bhp at the top end is very noticeable and equates to very high top speeds.

Pete - is it always true that a "Tek-2"'d Scoob will give similar imprvements over a PPP'd car? Or, was your example for a custom map?

Pete,

So you're saying that you can get 340bhp at the top end from an STi 7/8 with the standard PPP exhaust and a remap then are you?

Who's got one of these that you've done then? I wanna go

Matt

The figures are for custom maps.

Matt

The ones we have done have been with our downpipe. Mike says his catted downpipe is good for this but so far everyone has ditched it. The figures we quote are with our exhaust.

What would be the difference in results between a Tek-2 and a custom map, with no changes in spec? I'm thinking of the example of my own car, as the example.

MY00 UK Turbo
Full SS exhaust (OE up-pipe)
K&N 57i induction
Original turbo, intercooler & fuel system

...similar improvements as the PPP/custom comparison?

I don't think anyone has tried so I doubt anyone can tell you other than perhaps, Mike Wood at Prodrive (as I'm sure they've tested above and beyond the capabilities of the PPP (but don't expect them to give you that info as it's usually company confidential)).

The answer is probably somewhere between 320-340 possibly with the PPP Downpipe, and by the sounds of it, 340 with Pete's de-catted DP (though that sounds optimistic to me using the OE turbo (sorry Pete but it does!!)).

I saw very nice results after remapping a PPP STi8! (with the original PPP exhaust) It´s not worse compared to catless exhausts I´ve tested with.

Mark.

i know it's not exactly an STi8 but my WRX (MY03) is having a full decat (up/down pipe and system) fitted along with an EcuTek 3 on Thursday, so I'll let u all know how i get on. I'll more than likely be getting the car dyno'd soon after to see what it's kicking out so will post the results up.

Intergrale

GDB has about 320bhp at the flywheel. Its one of our postal maps so is a touch more conservative than a custom map done at Basildon. Rupert's fuel quality can vary quite a bit so this is also taken into consideration.

Hi Pete

I have an STI 2, with a H&S Downpipe and sn unknown Jap intermidiate pipe and backbox. Gave 276 at the flywheel.

Can I get an ECUTEK for this car, and what sort of power gain would I see? I always run it on Optimax and Millers

Hi Andy

Ecutek can only be used on 99 or later cars.
