Question

all,
what is the standard boost pressure for a STi 5 type r, i am currently running and holding 1.2 bar and it peaks at 1.25 - 1.3, do we think it has had some ecu work done? in all honesty i dont know where to start looking and it doesnt have anything obviously out of place under the bonnet? where would i look to see if the ecu has been fiddled with ?

many thanks for your time, dave

ECU is in the footwell of the passenger seat.
Check for the obvious different brand, or additional piggyback units connected to it.

1.3 is definately a little high for standard.
1.1ish on a vaguely accurate gauge , is nearer the mark for a stock V5 Type R.

Could be an ECUTEK remap as well, in which case, good luck finding that out!

Type R's sometimes seem to run more boost than standard STI's from what i've seen tbh.

Gixermans STI Version 5 was running at 1.4 peak and 1.2 held on a standard ecu so I would'nt worry to be honest, his car was fully de-catted.

Wheras I see 1bar on my STI Version 5 4 Door on std ecu.

Cool

These cars are likely to run more boost if you fit a free flowing exhaust in place of the standard one. Do you know if your car is running a standard exhaust system?

I would be worried about boost spikes over 1.2 bar on a Type R on their original ignition map with a decat and no knocklink. Midrange boost target is 1.08 bar.

There may be a small difference in restrictor orifice for the shorter geared cars, can't remember.

Also your boost gauge could be over-reading, especially with a relatively high held boost figure, the ECU tends to pull it down pretty sharpish to 1.08 bar where it can after the initial spike.

my STIV TypeR peaks at around 1.2 and hold at 1.1 bar. This is running the original STI filter and downpipe and a Fujitsubo s/s
Power Getter exhaust system.

Lift the carpet in the passenger footwell and you should see a metal plate.

ECU should be screwed below it.

Just had mine rolling roaded, running 0.8 bar. Asked the engineer who confirmed this was spot on, does this sound right?

simb 2: No, its either not producing or losing boost somewhere.

Going off JB's post, they should produce 1.08 bar. Mine is runs the standard ecu and I read aprox. 1.1 bar. If your guage is reading correctly, your down 0.3 (about 4.5psi) You will be considerably down on power. I would get it looked at.

Factory figures are 276bhp(280PS) and 260lbft (394Nm).

My experience is that most standard Type R's still struggle to get more than a genuine 270bhp (210@wheels ish) and 240lbft without a remapp on an accurate dyno..........

Gedi, my boost gauge reads 11 PSI on full chant. Whether she's losing power I don't know, it was rolling roaded at 301BHP - 230BHP at the wheels and 240ft/lb torque, this was a couple weeks back.

11psi????????? Are you sure its not 1.1bar?

230@wheels at 11psi is mammoth

Red face

My fully decatted Type R with the standard ECU would peak/spike at 1.4bar and then settle down to 1.1-1.2bar.

floppy dave, putting it on the rollers in its present state is asking to lunch your engine on the dyno. Sort the boost out and fit a knocklink first

5 Type R, yes mate that is in PSI, Just checked my gauge.
What seems huge the 'at the wheels' figure or the 'PSI'?

simb2, He means getting 301bhp with only 11psi of boost is mamoth.

Sounds like you either have a knackered guage or some pretty fancy internals there.

All I know is that the gauge was supplied and fitted by a scooby tunning company and reads 11 PSI on full chant, the rolling road printout shows 0.8 bar with the power figures stated, confusing I know. Will prob get the gauge looked at when its in for an oil change.
