My classic has just failed it's MOT needing front discs and pads. I was quoted £155 for the discs and £127 for the pads! Total bill of £398 for the work to be done.

I have priced up elsewhere and I am waiting for the results but should be quite a bit cheaper (I hope) The parts quoted were genuine Subaru bits. What a nightmare!

I've got a MY99 Turbo and need front discs in a month or so and have been quoted £93+ VAT for each, from the main dealer here.

Is that over the top then?

 

jeeze I paid £100 for ebc red stuff pads and they are supposed to be the dogs danglies for fast road and track.
You could get the discs cheaper from scoobysport, scoobymanaia, tsl and a few others.

here you go scoobyworld £169.00 for discs and they are a better one than the oem part.

Depends if that price includes fitting. I am going to go for non-subaru discs as they like to overcharge for genuine bits.

 

The dealer quoted me £100 per disc, £150 ish for the prodrive pads (beleive they are 2500's) + fitting ... Came to £470 all in..

Sod that..

Went to Subaru4you and got the lot all done for under the £300 mark.. Plus the parts used were better (Black Diamond discs drilled & grooved, plus Mintex 1155 pads)

doesnt sound like a bad deal three cheers for non dealer prices

 

one set of ebc green stuff-50 quid. 1 tube of copper grease 2 quid.....10 minutes a side........total cost 52 quid and a cup of tea

 

got my pads changed yesterday for £85 thats for parts and labour.

 

grade a subaru breakers are doing new replacement discs for £35 +vat each.

They were at the nbo with leaflets.

You can not fail a cars MOT for worn discs or pads - it can only fail if the breaking efficiency is below limits.

Sorry to disagree but actually they can fail the discs and pads during MOT. If the disc surface is badly cracked or corroded then fail and if pads are worn below 1 mm then fail , tis in the MOT bible.But that aint helping Scoobydb
£380 + ...... Neebs it would take about an hour to fit and as long as you can use normal hand tools you would have no problem to fit yourself....save your self some money...having said that, if you are unsure about fitting them yourslf then let the garage carry the work out....or gimmie a shout LOL

100 quid is cheap for good pads. i paid about 150 for my ds2500.

 

Mine failed due to worn pads. I thought they were taking the p**s, so went to another couple of garages to ask, and they confirmed it was.

I must be doing very well MY97 74,000 miles and never failed, had one advisary (brake pipes) rear.

 

just done pads, 100+vat for gen. scooby pads, would have shopped around but needed them that day and scooby dealer had off the shelf.

 

I agree with Spooks, cracked discs, warped discs, corroded discs, pads worn too far down, they're all fails

I'm kinda glad I don't have a Scoob...I get genuine Ford pads for my festa for £8 That's for an axle set btw

 

My OE discs and pads are at 27k and counting
still loads of life left in them too

Not as bad now chaps- Quoted £265 for new front discs and pads fitted including VAT. A mere £133 saving for the same job!
