Just bought an autometer oil temp sensor which came with a sump plug adapter, but i decied to fit it in the galley way above cylinder No:3.. I have got hold of a genuine subaru adapter and have tapped it to accept the autometer temp sensor...

Thing is the temp sensor doesnt stick out inorder to get the oil flowing over it.. Is this going to matter or will the oil heat up the adapter bolt then the sensor e.t.c

Does the defi sensor stick out into the galley way when fited into the genuine subaru adapter..????

Any thoughts would be great..!

Dan

I noticed this to Dan, as an ex-mechanic, i can safely say that it would make no differance in the sensor not protruding out of the addapter much.
Whilst on the subject, where did you get your adappter from for number 3?
And, will the one supplied with the gauge not fit? Ispose the one they supply is for the sump only.
Edited to say that its a suburu part and i wasnt paying attention!
Gary.

You can buy a no.3 plug with an NPT thread already from LeMans motorsport for about £4 + p&p. Saves all the bother of getting the NPT tap - they're difficult to get in England...

It gets a bit tight towards the end though as i think the sensors thread is tappered...!!

part number is:

Mike, basicly we have 2 choices.
1) Get the adapter needed from suburu using the part number that Dan says above. Trouble is with this option, is that the thread is wrong to take the sensor, hence it has to be re-tapped to the correct thread- this being eighth of an inch NPT.

2) Get intouch with Lemans Motorsport, apparently they have an adapter with the correct thread, this screws into the engine block above no.3 cylinder under the intercooler. Theres a large plug screwed in there, take it out with an allen key, and fit your adapter with plumbers tape (PTFE) and job done!

Lemans now do 2 sensors :

LMA067 - No.3 Gallery Sensor M18x1.5 - 1/8NPT - £3.70
LMA083 - Sump Adaptor, for fitting 1/8NPT Temp Sensor - £4.92

LMA083 is not listed on their site yet, but talk to Stuart Cummings @ LeMans as he has just had them made up after using my old Sump Plug as a template.

Cheers Scott, top man.
Part no. to.Thats helped me out big time. Do you use no.3 for pressure? I may use this approach as faffin around under the alternator sounds crap imo. Il then use sump for temp. Also, my gauge's scale dos'nt start till 140f (Autometer) will i see a reading!! Or are you talking Degrees c. Alternativly i maybe thick!

Gary.

I use No.3 for Pressure and the Sump for Temp.
Yes I do mean Degree's C.

Like you say, alot easier than messing with the stock sensor and alternator.

You will need to take the intercooler off and pull off a couple of 'push-on' breather hoses to get the Pressure Sensor fitted. Then refit all hoses and Intercooler.
