I have a small number plate on the front of my car.In the last week i have been pulled 2 times. My car is a import and all the time i have been driving i have got away with it. But today my girlfrind was driving (i was in bed off nights) they give her a ticket to produce, told her to change the plate. she has to take the car then to a mot station to make sure its been done.
DONT THEY JUST P*** YOU OFF.

It's an import, you can "get away with" a smaller plate (new"ish" regs)

You're not allowed a small plate on an import Impreza, there is enough room for a full sized one, front and back.

As far as I can see from reading the rules,it only applies to vehicles with a limited provided area.

You can kid yourselves for as long as you like but it just won't wash with the law.

My understanding is that you can have the small plates on any imported car. As far as I know there is no list of allowed and disallowed cars.

If the car is an import, you can have them.

With regards to size, motorbike lettering is the standard used. You can just ask them to cut the spare area down to size.

Hope this helps.

I have a motorcycled letter rear plate becuase its two rows to fit into the metal bracket and prefectly legal apparantly. I had a UK square one but had to cut it down to fit and was illegal because there wasnt a big enough border around the letters. My front plate is a UK one though.

In The Sticks

depending where you stick the plate it "could" reduce airflow into front openings - albeit on a miniscule level

plus, it looks more like a rally car and is harder to read for various reasons...

Good link
As has been stated, there is enough room to fit a full sized numberplate on an impreza, if you put a small numberplate on, then get caught and start moaning its your own fault (and when they start fining you it will get even better).
There is no reason you cannot fit a regular numberplate to your car so fit one and you wont get pulled by the police life is simple if you stay within the rules

When it comes down to it, I imagine that in law there is a reason for requiring number plates to be of a definite size, according to the published figures. Maybe that is because it is necessary to be able to read them and identify the car.

I dont think you can stand on your dignity when you are stopped for having small plates because you have broken the law and it is part of the copper's job to stop you.

The guy could have fined your girl friend but he gave her the chance to put it right,so I dont think you can complain that much about it.

i guess we all take the chance when it comes to illegal lettering and plate size.

its crap really, cause the police have better things to do, like pulling people who have no insurance and mot etc.
but, they have to pick on someone dont they

My question would be: if motorcycle font is big enough to be read on a motorcycle, why isn't it considered big enough to be read on a car?

I have an undersize front plate (standard motorcycle font with standard motorcycle spacing) and so far haven't had any grief. If pulled, I'll try the old "import regulations" but at the end of the day, it's my choice and my problem.

I think that ALL car drivers should REMOVE their front plates, until ALL motorcycles are forced to have one the same size we do And the same with the back!

Thumbs up

Theres been a crack down on legal plates for some time now. I believe its got something to do with the new plate recognition cameras being fitted to all traffic cars. There able to determine whether a car is stolen, taxed and insured in a tenth of a second while driving down the road. This also applies to on coming traffic. So in the event your car maybe stolen the police have a better chance of catching the scum. I’m happy to live with the full size plate myself. It also help to rid the road of uninsured drivers and tax dodgers.

So as long as your legal your less likely to get stopped by the police.

You have to put [ img] in front of the url and [ /img] afterwards (without any spaces) and the pic will show on here
