Question

I recently bought an MY02 STI7 which currently has 22 months left on the manufacturer’s warranty. I am very pleased with the scoob but keep thinking about getting the ECU done. The exhaust was done by the Subaru dealer and its apparently got about 285BHP and this is covered by the warranty.

I went to ScoobySport yesterday to see Pete and for about £1200 they will change the downpipe so it's a total de-cat, upgrade the fuel pump and remap the ECU. I was told I would get about 335 - 340BHP and about 320 lbs torque

This would mean I will invalidate my warranty so I am unsure What would you do?

Ask the dealer, I would be trying to keep my 22 months for sure.

Nick,
I had the same dilemma but after fitting a MRT exhaust, a scoobysport up-pipe, dawes and a few other bits and pieces I started to understand just how good these cars can be. I was told last week the last 23 months of my warranty is totally invalid for the entire car, but for the next 23 months I have got something I really enjoy driving.

these cars seem to be mega fragile and can go wrong big time for no apparent reason..if u can afford the 5 grand to rebuild the engine or are going the rebuild route anyway then go for the extra power but i invalidated my warrany on a p1 by doing mega mods and for the extra gain it isnt worth the worry..use the 280bhp and enjoy peace of mind

Any 'non subaru' performance enhancing parts will invalidate your warranty. In my experience only cars that have been modified seem to suffer engine failure. IMO i'd leave well alone.

I'm having PPP, and have already changed my BB and centre cat. This will not invalidate the warranty. The parts are the same as the PPP exhaust and centre decat, made by the same compnay (SCorpion). OK the BB is a bit louder (Firestorm)

The dealer hasn't a problem with this and is reducing the PPP price as I'm not having the exhaust (Except the high flow cat front).

There have been quite a few engine failures from standard engines as well, wrong/too much oil, fuel, high speed running. maf failures etc. I agree in one way though if you up the power the parts are more stressed and more likely to break.

Any part fitted to a car of the same or better standard manufacture is ok,just IM trying to sell you there parts, friend of mine did this to Honda, went all the way to court but he won cause thats the law!.Cant argue with the firestorm bits made by the same people to a better standard than the PPP exhaust.

Nick i cant see how you have 285 bhp when they 265 standard, unless when u mean when your exhaust was "done" by a subaru garage they replaced with a proper sports system, and thats down a ppp road.

If you didnt want the warranty but wanted more power why by a uk car in the first place?

Also if you invalidate the warranty with extensive mods and something goes wrong youll kick yourself.
