I know this has probably been covered thousands of times before... and it may be a 'scooby in a lake moment' but....

My car is a MY95 WRX and my gear change from 2nd to 3rd has become a bit notchy so thought id change the gear box oil before anything else..

So whats the best oil...?? syntrax..?? and how do i got about changing it..

Any help would be great..!!!

Same happened on my 93 wrx found it very hard to go from 5th to 4th
changed oil and after about 50 miles gear box like new again no more problems. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the gear box think it was 21mm undo this and drain oil out .Tighten bolt back up and then remove the dip stick .Get a funnel and a short piece of hose attach the hose to the funnel and the other end to where the dip stick goes in and then fill it up . think you will need about 4 litres syntrax is meant to be the best. it worked for me.

Some of the funnels you buy in motoring shops like halfords or motorworld have a flexi pipe on the bottom which is ideal.

Interesting. Just checked dipstick for the gearbox oil. It read as low. Should i have the engine warmed before checking?

Sure enough, gear changes are starting to become slightly more tricky. Especially 1st to 2nd!

Maybe i'll try an oil change

Mine is the same mate..!!! i toped it up when i bought it about a year ago as it was low on the dip stick... I could be wrong but i always check it with the engine/gearbox cold..!!

I think ill give the oil a change and see what its like then..!

Keep me posted of any improvements... or not..??

Will do. I'm now remembering that down changing to third aint the best either!! Looks like the car is in for a serious makeover. List now reads as:

MOT
SS down - pipe
Blitz exhaust
uprated fuel pump
uprated regulator
oil filter and now gear box oil

lol - and so it goes on

Thumbs up

I cant wait - just cant wait. Trying to figure out what performance gains i'll get in terms of BHP. I know one thing is for sure is that my power band wont be between 3000 and 4500 anymore. I hope

I think the recommended gearbox oil change is about every 40,000 miles
