MY03 PPP 50 - 70 time
Has anyone here reached the Prodrive claimed 7.4 seconds from 50-70 in 5th gear with the MY03 WRX PPP?

Is this time achieved by accelerating through 50mph or just flooring it when at a constant 50?

Yes I have, but it was me that did the figures (several times!!)
The in gear figures are all done by accelerating through the speed range so that full boost is achieved before the lower speed is reached, not opening the throttle at a given speed.

Mike,
Is'nt that 'cheating'? In my ignorance I assumed that the 50-70 time was cruising at 50 and then flooring it, as it was meant to emulate an overtaking manuver(same goes for 30-70 etc). Is the way you outlined above the standard way of doing it, as by doing a 'flying pass' you cut out a lot of potential lag from the engine and gears.

Thanks Mike,
I figured the 50-70 time would be the easiest way of determining the correct operation of the PPP. Just out of interest, how many miles were on the engine when the tests were carried out? Should I be able to get this time with 3100 miles on the clock, or will it loosen up with more miles?

Cheers Mike.
Just odd it's done like a run up, rather than simulating pootling behind a car at 50 and then overtaking, Although how many of us ovetake a car doing 50 in 5th gear. Changing down first is much more fun

I would guesstimate the effect would be similar to braking to maintain a constant 50 while opening the throttle to increase boost, then releasing the brake.

Many years ago Performance Car magazine (former EVO, how many remember it?
) revealed that they used the same method that Mike used to test the PPP. Magazines including Autocar do time the acceleration as the car passes through the increment rather than hitting say 30 mph then flooring it and taking a timing at 50. Its not "cheating" but gives a pretty good indication of the cars flexibility.

Blimey, I've been doing it wrong then. I timed a TEK 2.5 car from 50-80 in fifth at 9s, but that was from steady 50 with closed throttle and no boost. I'll have to try it Mikes way to make a good comparison.

Like Neil I think if I was waiting to overtake I wouldnt be sitting in 5th at 50, can you boys drive a turbo car
. I also assumed it meant constant 50 then floor it
