Who`s keeping their STI8 standard?
Who`s keeping their STI8 standard and if so why? Are you happy with the performance?
Just thought I`d ask this `cause I am. Due to insurance purposes, excess etc. The only thing I could do without effecting insurance was a dumpvalve which I had put on (Forge VTA type). Also it`s my 1st Scooby after having a 172 Clio. All I hear about is reviews on the PPP`d STI and comments on this board.
Overall I`m very chuffed with the performance, seems plenty fast enough for me, ok it does take a while to pick up in first but once it goes, it goes. Beating most things on the road

Mine's still standard...
But I am getting pressure to get a PPP fitted!
Nothing wrong with the overall performance but I have heard that the PPP gives a more smooth power delivery... less lagg and more up top power.
Only problem is £1999.

Probably not, depends on the cash flow and how much the misses lets me spend on it, haven't got it yet 'week and a bit to go' but so far WR Sport B/B, tinted windows and STI mud flaps, thinking about PPP and 18"s and silicon hoses for the engine bay and hi-fi upgrade.
Exhaust system a must, remove centre cat, resonator section and BB frees up the power deliver a little without PPP and makes it sound like a flat 4 !
The Forge VTA will only remove smoothness and power, not a good idea. Removed mine
Wheels are a must to change
Steve

Steve I haven`t noticed any difference in smoothness or power. I`ve read something about the dump valve allowing the turbo to spin faster when changing gears!?! May be wrong though!
Forest,
Sorry what I mean't to say was that the VTA is ok if you drive the car hard all of the time, but when you drive 'Normanlly !!' then Forge VTa's tend to make the car hestitant at low revs. Usually due to the type of spring fitted. You also have to be really careful that it seals correctly

Forest 172 I think the word copy cat springs to mind.
My 172 goes this week once my personal plate comes back from DVLA. The STI8 is sat there waiting with performance pack fitted waiting for me to drive it away from the dealers....mmmmmm i cant wait.
Oh but the other half has a 172 also so i still get to have the buzz and excitment I still get everytime i take mine out at the moment. She runs on the prototype Janspeed de-cat exhaust and sounds gorgeous.
I must admit the more i hear the more im worried about the performance on the STI8. Mine should have around 300BHP with an exhaust, induction upgrade but people dont sound overly convinced as to its power. Is it going to kick the clio's ****? or am I doing the wrong thing?

Kick the clio`s ****!!! I had a MK1 172, yeah it was quick but not a prayer against the STI.
Had a play with a Mk2 172 the other day on some back lanes, I had to keep letting off the gas pulling out the twisties!

Considering the PPP but will see how I feel in a few months time - not even passed run in period yet!!
If I don't go for the PPP, I will definitely sort out the exhaust. Had a SS b/b on my MY99 and miss the sound

Thats good to hear Forest.
I have a one year old mark 2 and she would beat the older MY02 wrx to 100 mph. So i'm glad you have put my mind at rest. I did test drive an STI and it felt quicker but it only had 300 miles on the clock so i couldnt rant it.
Cant wait to get it, should be sometime this week, how sad am I but I cant sleep at night, haha.
