As I have stated before on many posts, my new Scoob has made me smile constantly, until I decide to check my oil level today.

I have read so many posts with regard to the poor paintwork on these cars, but I wasn't expecting something like this after only 2,600 miles (just over a month)

OK, so not the worst thing in the world, but enough to wipe the smile from my face this morning...

Very similar to my experiences on Sunday.

120 mile drive down to Santa Pod - and the front of my car ended up looking like it had been attacked by a pebbledasher

I was gutted! :x

Still not convinced it was a stone - I guess if it was, it was a pretty big one that bounced it's way up the bonnet for a bit after the initial dent.

Either that or someone has decided to add their signature to my bonnet - strange place to do it though.

I can hear my wife's words now...'I told you not to get it in black'...

Might have to cheer myself up by booking my car in to get the PPP fitted that I have been um-ing and r-ing about.

yep

Just cleaning the mass of flies of the front of the car yesterday, and found my first stone chip. It's a tiddler (about the size of a pin head) - but I'm not even run in yet...

Someone upstairs is telling me to get Armourfend quick...

That's my next mod I think...

Don't think it would have helped in Silverback's case though...

I have a nasty dent on my sti8 bonnet (if you can call the 'flimsy/bendy/gets sucked into a different profile at speed' thing that) from a stone/rock that hit it on the M4... and it is right where there are two layers of metal, so cant be removed by Dents Away or similar

Richie.

Plan is to get chipsaway or should that be 'cratersaway' to do a quote for repair and then get my baby sent to Armourfend for a bit of PVC protection!

Having looked over the rest of the front, I have a few nasties down both front wings as well. Most of my miles have been spent on the motorway!

(depending on the quotes)

At least the bonnet is Alloy on all MY03s

So it's only the wings that'll rust

It happens. Funny I didn't notice the hundreds of stone chips on my 10 year old pug, but it wiped the smile off my face seeing 5 chips on the bonnet within 350 miles (all when in France with very little traffic around). One large stone was responsible for three chips on the paint before it bounced off the scoop and dented the fins on the intercooler. I've temporarily repaired the chips with chip-stick (an expensive crayon?).
Armourfend? Stone chip film? Tell me more.
Would Amazing Glaze help?

mattstant: How about red?

But I think silver would hide stone chips better than most colours...

Thumbs down

I swore I'd never get a black car, then I bought a bargain car but it was black. I sold it within a year. Even though I bought it new and kept it clean, it was a nightmare to care for. In the summer the dust stuck to it 5 mins after washing and swirl marks came out in the sunshine (I only polish in straight lines!).

Never, ever again!

A stone thunked on my bonnet while I was on the motorway, forgot all about it, checked the Oil on Sat and found a large dent and rust patch on the leading edge of the bonnet. Where the sone / boulder bounced it left another dent.

Got Armourfend fitted to my STi8 before I picked it up and have just done over 1000 miles - looks good so far. Cost quite a bit, but am hoping it is worth it in the long run, given that I had chipsaway around three times in the three years I had my MY99.

Peter

Edited as I am having to use a French keyboard and get the q and a the wrong way around!!
