rubber driverside mat??, difficult to see with that pipework in the way


is that a 4" d/p? thats gotta be close to the steering shaft?

wont be 4", as iirc, max H&S can do is 3 1/4".

well the up-pipe is going to be 2" so that gives a little perspective to the size of down pipe.
looks like a normal 3" reducing to 2.5" to me.

what I can't fathom out is the 3rd pipe from the left

up-pipe, down pipe, ???, centre section.

is it a straight through back box

It's going on a MY01 so the pipe farthest right is a second centre section (there are two on a Fugly).

looks like the mystery pipe is small section between d/p and rear section??, is there a backbox

It must just be the photo that has distorted the sizes. It's a 3" d/p that reduces down to 2.5" in common with the rest of the system. The back box is already on the car.

Quick bit of advice - buy yourself some exhaust wrap to keep the underbonnet temps and the noise down. It is much easier to fit before you put them on the car.

Duncan

PS Spray the nuts with WD40/Plusgas whilst the exhaust is still warm - it makes getting the nuts off much easier. A set of new gaskets (about £40) might also be a worthwhile investment.

GOOD GRIEF...Set the alarm clock early for Saturday morning …looks like plenty of work ahead!!

I guess our cars left the factory at about the same time but in a different colour…….


Seriously though..
I have often thought of ditching the cats altogether, I have "lost" the centre cat and the resonator but wonder what gains can be had from getting rid of the rest.

I have TeK 2'd mine and wondered what you have in mind?

David,

The system is second hand (apart from the up-pipe) so a bit of staining is making the welds look funny. I've checked them all and bar carrying out an MPI or eddy current test, thay are all sound.

Midlife,

You can hear the sound of my new toy at the next Cumbrian Scoob meet (after Butter me up -missing due to hangover)! Tek 3 next year.

Hi Steve

I just read your post on Detting etc in General which reminded me about your de-cat

How are things going??, I heard that the Lambda sensor had to be repositioned (or something). It's the next engine mod for me following on from the usual centre cat, resonator, back box, ITG, TeK 2 route etc.

Hi Midlife.

Yes the Lambda sensor did need to be moved, which confused me as the centre section was second hand, so it must have been hitting the previous owners engine brace. I took it to work and asked one of my welders to move the socket back a bit.

So far I have had no det and I don't expect to get any either.
