Mine was fitted yesterday. The garage said that it was a recall because most PPP STi's were delivering the specified BHP but not the torque. Certainly the low down delivery is now smoother and better, which surprises me greatly because this must mean that the original pump was dropping pressure very quickly once you hit the throttle!

If this is true then this ought to be an isssue for standard STis as well.

I assume you've got an STi7. There was a recent thread which went into the matter in some detail. However, in the case of the 7s, I believe it was a recall.

A revised fuel pump has always been standard on the STi8 PPP.

My MY02 STi PPP replacement pump was fitted last week.

The reasons your dealer have given you for having to change it are incorrect.

Lastly, the STi without PPP doesn't need an uprated pump

Allegedly with the original pump and significant modifications taking the power well over 300bhp, it could run too lean at high boost & revs which could lead to an increased probability of getting det. I believe several people remapping the car also insist on fitting an uprated pump (eg Power Engineering).

Hades,
You correct IIRC the highest risk area seems to be between 6400-7200rpm in 5th gear. You may wish to change to 6th a bit earlier till the Pump is changed

Tony

Gettting mine fitted Friday

Mark,

Paul McCarthy from CVC mentioned to us recently that the recall letters should be on their way.

Don't forget to make sure you have no more than a third of a tank of fuel when you go to have it fitted. Some owners have been asked to come back after they have used up some of the fuel.
