Question

I recently had a new rear windscreen fitted on my MY98 turbo. Since then I seem to get a line of condensation around the bottom of the screen.

I also have a boot that leaks. This is strange because the wooden panel above the spare wheel is damp but I cannot spot any obvious leaks.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or got any sensible suggestions?

Thanks

Graeme

this one comes up all the time- the boot leak is probably the light cluster leaking- check its sealed correctly. There is a very comprehensive thread on here on how to fix this- try a search.

Thanks for the advice. This would make sense as the LH side cluster was damaged 6 weeks ago and replaced. (missus reversing again!!)

Where is this thread you mention? Excuse the ignorance.

Just remove the light cluster (should be stuck in using loads of stickly goo) and refit using another load of sticky goo.

The "sticky goo" in question is a black substance a bit like silicone sealant that never sets - ask your dealer and I daresay that they might remove/refit free of charge...

Dead easy to fix, albeit a little time consuming, if you can't find the thread using the search function, I can send you basic instructions.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advice. I was expecting a load of abuse.

Do you think this could be causing the problem with the rear windscreen. i.e damp boot?

Yes, it will be causing the condensation.

Look in the spare wheel well, and in the well where the jack is kept. Money (although not much) says that there's a pool of water in there...

Been and had a look. The spare wheel well is bone dry as is the jack well.

Will keep an eye on the rear light cluster though.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes it was doing so in my 5 door. Leaking water into spare wheel well folloed by warmig the boot floor from the heat from the exhaust and bingo - condensation all over the rear windows.

I have found that since getting the rear end replaced after being rearended I have been getting water in the spare wheel base and damp and mould on the hardboard cover.

After much investigation I have found that behind the rear bumper below the light cluster on both sides are a couple of holes 1" in diameter which in the manual seem to be for datum alignment, which I think should have blanking grommets fitted.

At the moment I am trying to get my local Subaru dealer to get some.

Andy.

If you pop the inspection cover off so that you can see the back of the light cluster, you may be able to see/feel a pool of water in the bottom of the light.

bear in mind it's been quite dry for the past few days.
