Question

Can anyone advise on choice of petrol. Was told not to put "supermarket petrol" into my 98 turbo. Does it really make any difference. Recommended Shell Optimax......dont want to do my new pride and joy any harm......not after waiting so long for one?? Any advice out there......

Hi Mate,

If you can afford it only use Shell Optimax and if you can't your best bet is Super Unleaded.

Turbo cars love fuel with a high RON especially Subaru's as petrol in Japan is 100RON.

I belive the minimum Subaru recommend is 97RON which is Super Unleaded.

Any Problems e-mail me.

Regards

I've got a UK MY00 Turbo, & as far as I can remember (as I can't be bothered to drag my *** out to the garage to look it up) I can use 95 RON. But I don't. I normally put BP Super unleaded in, just lately I've been feeding it Optimax. It does make a difference. The car runs more smoothly & feels more powerful. However, it will take a few full tanks for your Scooby to adjust to a different fuel, so don't expect to feel a huge difference after filling-up with either of the above. Unless you feel brave enough to perform an ECU reset! There has been enough written about different petrols & ECU resets on this site to level several virtual rainforests, so for more info, try using the search function.

Well, just to 'fuel' to the fire, I have only ever used supermarket fuel, I've had my car from new, 3yrs now, I tried the Optimax, and my car hated it, I did the reset and tried about 5 tanks full, but it made no difference si I went back to regular stuff, never even used super, I now have 270ish bhp, on a uk car, so it can't be all that bad!!

28k now too!
