Have been quoted an extra £270 on top of my £1200 policy with Tesco's.

They basically had to list the PPP as 2 seperate mods - 1 for engine chip mods and 1 for exhaust replacement. They have it down as a category 'b' upgrade (between 11 and 20% power increase)

Reasonable or have they mis-calculated what the PPP is/improves?

How did you describe it to them?

As a chip and exhaust or as a dealer fitted standard tuning package?

Interested as I am about to buy a MY03 WRX and PPP it.

Well, I explained it was a dealer fitted option, but the person on the other end of the phone, said

'oh yes, we know about the PPP, but we have to split it into seperate engine chip and exhaust change on our system.'

Still waiting for my 30th birthday (August) when I can get quote from the likes of Liverpool Victoria etc.

Sorry, just realised I posted this under 'general', rather than 'insurance'

I assume a moderator will move the thread?

I just bought a STiPPP and I got quotes from tesco (and directline - same underwriters), axa, flux and finally norwich union via subaru insurance.

late 30s, cambridgeshire, driveway, 1 fault claim, no convictions, 7yrs NCD, 500xs.

axa (current insurer) 1600
tesco & direct line 1400
NU via subaru 1000

i tried a few other places who mostly were 1100 for standard Sti and then wanted 1400-1600 for PPP addition. NU only wanted 10% loading.

here is full breakdown of my policy with NU if it helps anyone ...

Our figures are based upon the following information:

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK (Prodrive Performance Upgrade fitted)
2003 Model
Value - £26,990 (incl PPP)
Insured & Spouse to drive
Use - Social, domestic and pleasure including commuting
7+ yrs protected no-claims bonus

Please note that the following Terms & Conditions would apply;

* £520.00 excess to apply to all accidental damage, fire & theft
claims
* £60.00 excess to apply to all windscreen claims
* Thatcham Category 1 alarm/immobiliser (fitted as standard) to be
fully operational
* Approved satellite tracking system to be fitted and fully
operational
* Driving of other cars - INCLUDED

The benefits of the policy include;

* European certificates - up to 45 days free European cover per
year
* Unlimited windscreen cover (if approved repairer used)
* Unlimited audio cover (if fitted as standard)
* Approved repairer facility including courtesy car in the event
of a claim
* Claims helpline (outside office hours) - 0800 678 999
* £2500.00 personal accident cover for yourself &/or spouse
* £100.00 medical expenses cover
* Full RAC breakdown cover and other additional benefits available
for a further £45.00.

The annual premium for the above cover is £1086.10, which includes 5.00%
insurance premium tax, £10.00 administration fee and £12.50 DAS Legal
Protection.

Also speak to Subaru's 'own' insurers - tom@schofieldinsurance.co.uk

My STI7 premium was set to go up by about £80, but actually has come DOWN : Yes - DOWN

After I had the PPP fitted Direct Line upped my excess from £250 to £400 and left my premium untouched.

Just been advised by the AA that my premiums for the addition of PPP adds ZERO to the premium of £1200.

Beat that lads.

I added the PPP to my 02 WRX last Summer, and Tesco increased the cost by 10%. I pay under £600 in total. It was the 3rd quote from Tesco however (and the cheapest). Tesco admin are hopeless!

Cheers

"dealer fitted standard tuning package"

I told Tesco pretty much that. Said it was fitted only by official dealers and didn't affect the warranty. They were happy.

So, you've decided not to have another Seat? Welcome and good luck flogging your number plate.

Cheers

No increase in my £1157 premuim with CIS, just a note to tell them its been done. Depends on your record with them though + no silly excess increase

You gets what you pays for with insurance

Cool

Silverback,

I would tell them to **** off and give Greelight a call - they have a very open policy on mods and they know exactly what you are talking about. A lot of people assume they can just say:

- exhaust replacement
- power increase of 10% (for classic)

and forget about the revised ducting. I approached Admiral and explained what the PPP was (as above) and they said, 'yeah, no probs, that'll be £137 more please'. A day later, I received a phone call and the person said that it had been referred for further investigation - the result - they wouldn't touch an MY00 + PPP AT ALL! The more senior person on the end of the phone said that you can list all 'the bits' but if it isn't 100% accurate, come claim time, you're up sh*t creek without a paddle.

I'm now with Greenlight who are great.

The whole thing is rather strange considering Admiral DO insure a P1??!! But NOT an MY00 + PPP - somebody please explain that to me!

Wuss.
